Default People with the G5X3

Im planning on buying one of these from a member on these boards and wanted to see what you guys thought of it. Ever since I found this cam, Ive wanted it because its the only cam there is that i can buy that isnt a custom grind that isnt too weak, but not insane like the T-Rex. I drove a friends vert C5 Vette that was had the G5X3 and heads. I absolutely LOVED it. It idled so close to a stock cam, but when you got on the gas, the power was unbelievable. I loved it even more after that drive.

But thats a vette. I know itll be different in a F-Body. Im sure it wont idle as smooth since itll be on stock heads. But what other differences will there be. I can get some work done to my stock heads, but thatll have to wait a little to get the money together.

So anyone have this cam in their cars? Maybe on stock heads? Hows it drive, idle, and all that.

Not like the t-rex? It is batting a close second to it in most people's book.
And if the idle was close to a stock cammed car, then he has a wicked bad *** tune!

Get your heads ported, and I wouldnt suggest milling them at all. You are going to have a tight clearance as it is. You are gonna want to not cheap out on valvetrain parts either...IE: TI retainers, Dual springs (possibly), timing chain, lifters (depending on condition of your stock ones, and hardend pushrods.

70hp from the cam only according to LG Motorsports. I dont expect to get that much, but Ill be happy if its remotely close to that.

I know its not that much smaller than the t-rex, but I wouldnt put a 110 in as my daily driver. Im getting PRC double springs and comp chromoly pushrods with it. Ive thought about replacing the timing chain but I know its not a must. And Im sure my lifters wont be bad, but with this cam I might do everything while im in there for safety sake.

70hp cam only?!? Maybe at the crank. I doubt this cam will give you 70 rwhp. If it did I would be very surprised!

Idle is far from stock more like Pro Stock, but I love it.Off idle it's smooth as silk and pulls like a feight train above 3000rpm's. Raced the Corvette Challange this past weekend made it to the Semi Finals running 12.1's @ 115-116 with street tires, Goodyear GS-D3's cutting lousy 1.9 sixties.Came out @ idle and rolled it on,otherwise my converter would kick in and blow the tires out from under me. I've driven a few different cam cars and I guess it matters what your goals are but I'm very happy with this cam on stock heads. My car is down right now, I'm putting on Dart 225's as we speak, looking forward to what it will turn on the Dyno then, but most imporantly at the track.

"LG motorsports has seen on numerous installs, 70 rear wheel horsepower from our G5X3 cam. No Streetable cam makes more power."

Straight from Lou's site:
http://www.lgmotorsports.com/catalog...oducts_id=1509

Anyone with a F-Body that has this cam? Im affraid that the difference between the vette and f-body might be really different and Im unhappy with it as a daily driver (for a little bit longer)

LOL, first time I've ever heard someone comment that a G5X3 idled close to stock. Are you sure he had a G5X3? I suggest going to ls1sounds and playing a few videos of a G5X3 and if you still think it idles close to stock, you may want to check into a methodone clinic.

I have the g5x3 in a 2002 A4 C5. Not sure who above said something about their buddies being let down by the power output, but all I can say there is either they did not have a good tune or they were just expecting more than the cam is capable of. Granted mine is in a vette and it is an automatic, but the car made 439rwhp on what I would consider a questionable tune with ported LS6 heads that only flow around 290cfm @ .600. I have been playing with the tune myself and the car is a lot more responsive now than it has ever been. As well I have been able to get the idle down to 875 on this cam with no problems and driving around town is a breeze for a DD. But to be honest, idle is nowhere near stock either in feel or sound.

My car has run 10.95 @ 123+ with a +2700' DA and full size front tires. I am sure that with the addition of skinnies up front and removing the passenger seat the car will be solidly in the 10's in the next few weeks when I am able to get back to the track. Now just imagine a 150 shot on top of this.. 9's here we come.

Get it, you cant go wrong, its a proven performer! and get with a reputable tuner too.

i would also do a stage 1 on your heads. also if its a 112 it will be choppy. 114 is the street version.

Also .. forgot to mention my G5x3 is on a 112. :-) If you have an M6 it will be smoother all around.

That would be me.. lets see 1 car is a '98 full bolt-on Trans Am M6 with the X3 made 385rwhp!!! so 350rwhp to 385rwhp =35 hp gain..2nd car '01 Zo6 w/bolt-ons made 402rwhp!!! so 360rwhp to 402rwhp = 42rwhp ... Nowhere near 70HP .. But that could be just those two... Oh yea before you say "it's the tune" they were tuned at two different shops...just my .02 cents

It wouldnt matter either way. That 112 to 114 is nothing that you would be able to really tell the difference side by side. It would just raise the overlap 2* degree points higher. plus it is going in a M6 so I would suggest the opposite.

Waterbug

I'll post here after the Dyno tune, install is going well. Checkin valve clearance with the .05's to see if I can mill any.

I have heard you have to fly cut with the X3? Doesn't seem like you should have to.

I have the X3 with AS heads. I love this cam. It idels better than the X2 and drives better than the X2 also. I made ~428 RWHP with a forged motor with <1000 miles on it in the FL summer air. Im sure its more in it with better air.
