Default All these new heads, still high price!

I remember back in the day when there was no heads, or should I say a limited selection. All everyone used to talk about was more makers coming out so we would have options.

Someone finally comes out with them and they are 2k+ a pair. So then we talk more about if the LSx market ever going to be affordable. Now we have almost every major head company making Lsx heads and they are still 2k+ for a good set. I remember alot of people saying all this competition is good and will eventually drive the price down alittle. I just want to say I havent seen it yet.

I remember back in the day when people would pay 3k+ for a set of stock ported heads. A few shops come to mind. Now I guess my question is will our lsx head prices ever come down? Just so its clear, I'm not talking about the cheap budget heads. I'm talking about the big makers. Dart, Edelbrock, Afr, etc. I just thought the market would come down with everyone making them and it sure doesnt seem like it's going to happen soon!

Uh mabye if GM stops making LSx based engines. As long as there's a demand they will prolly stay close to the same price.

Give it 10 years when LS1's are as old as SBF's are now. I know heads for my 5.0 were no more than $1200 for the good ones fully assembled, and a cam was $120 brand new. Hell Trick Flow has a H/C/I + hardware and gaskets kit for $2100 for ford 302's

You can get darts for 1200 bux, that a lot less than 2k. I would rather have a budget head over the darts( TSP LS6)

IMO, no way are the prices going to go down, as the R&D and cost of production is about the same for aftermarket head manufacters (AFR, ETP, Trickflow). There will be a market for their heads at the current prices for some time based on all the LSX engines out there IMO.

Back to the whole you get what you pay for stuff.
Prices are staying up in out market on cly heads.
The prices have in fact came down.
I know you say you dont care about budget heads but the budget heads weren't around back in the day. So I see a big difference in price.
Aftermarket heads cost the same price as the old ported LS6 heads cost.

AFR, ET, etc can't make enough castings to keep them on the shelf... so there's no way the price is going to go down very much until they start having them sitting around.

The budget heads now a days are a great value. I have a set of stock ported perimeter bolt 98 heads myself. I just remember after Afr's came out, then the rumors about all the other big head makers started coming out. Alot of people were saying how they had hoped the prices would come down, they didn't. If anything, everyone set their prices around Afr's for a quality aftermarket head. I would pay the amount they sell for, I dont have a problem with that. I just think that the whole Lsx market gets the shaft when it comes to pricing.

I know about the , "you get what you pay for". I personally was hoping that after a bit, all the the major makers would be between 1500-2k out of the box and the budget would be around 800-1200. I think a big thing that has killed us price wise is the simple fact of how long it took for anything aftermarket to come out in the head market. As far as the lsx being out since 1997.
