Default NEW QTP quick change cam cover and H/O oil pump, worth it?

- NEW QTP quick change cam cover and H/O oil pump, worth it? -

Just wanted opinions on the new cam cover that QTP is now selling. I was thinking that maybe the $450 price tag may be worth it especially with a new super do-it-all cam debuting every 6 months or so. I have yet to find out if you HAVE to use QTPs oil pump or will the cam cover work with the LS6 GM unit.

Opinions wanted, especially from those that are using it.

If you plan on changing cams often it will be worth every penny.
Looks sweet too!

I agree....Invaluable if you plan on a couple of cam swaps. It was a godsend at my most recent visit to the engine dyno where I swapped four cams and never even thought about pulling harmonic balancers and messing with my front seal alignment (you only loosen the top half bolts).

You don't have to use their pump with the cover....it works with or without their pump. If you like clearances on the looser side the larger pump isnt a bad idea....just dont port it or you might find yourself sucking the pan dry....ask me how I know....LOL (And dont bother with the heavier spring....the pump has plenty of capacity and doesn't need the higher pressure spring which is installed from QTP....install the optional light blue striped spring they provide with the kit).

Tony M.

PS....Also, you can only use a single roller chain with their front cover....just an FYI. Otherwise you cant get the wider gear off to remove the cam (not enough room). I have been running an LS2 single chain even with my solid roller and it hasn't posed a problem.

I have there cover and love it. I also have a small cam now and will be going larger. So i know when it comes time for the change it will be a breeze. Also there pump is a nice piece too. Replaced it with my stock pump. I also used the blue spring. Nice a steady oil pressure. You almost want to hang the cover on the wall its that niece of a piece. To bad you really can see it on the car that much. 2 thumbs up

Not worth it IMO unless you plan on several cam swaps or more than 1 with a corvette (which you don't have) Since you have to do a lot of crap to take off the balancer on a vette.

I considered it when building my new motor. I ultimately decided it was not worth it for me.

The butter is in the last two questions of the poll.

I'm going to buy it. I've done a couple of camswaps and plan on trying different grinds with my car due to unique circumstances (see location).

It's going to be worth it's weight in gold IMO.

We are working on the LS2 cover now. Should have that done in a couple of weeks. We know its expensive. its expensive to make. Aluminum is going through the roof now We know its not a hot seller like our other products. But we made this cover because we wanted it for our personal cars.

I have to get take picture of the inside of the cover so you can see the detail and craftmanship. You will appreciate it much more.

Will the cover work with the 6.0L iron truck block? If so, then I may hav eto pick one up with the pump for my new motor... who knows if the first cam that goes in it will be the right one for what I'm trying to accomplish.. so it's probably a good idea.

Lemme know if it fits the iron block, Thanks!

Unless you plan on a fair amount of cam changes I don't think the 2 piece cover is worth it. You don't have to run the QTP 2 piece cover to run the QTP high volume oil pump. I know from experience since QTP hasn't finished their LS2 2 piece cover. I got tired of waiting and thought that I might have to clearance the stock cover very slightly but I didn't have to touch the stock LS2 cover at all.

It's definitely a nice piece, and I know it costs money to produce them, but it's the price that drives people away from them. If they were cheaper they would definitely sell.

I'm interested in this timing cover!

One question though, Once the new cam has been swapped in, is one still able to degree the cam (without removing more parts)?

I realize its alot of machine work but damn the material costs maybe 20-30 bucks especially with bulk purchasing discounts, then you may have 3 hours on teh cnc machine. It is for sure a damn nice piece and I would love to have one but not for 425 bucks. Just my opinion on it.

Its a lot of money but if your gonna do a few swaps then it might be worth it to ya. I never had any trouble with the pulley and $425 is way to much for a cover. I'm having an sb built right now and are thinking about a few different cam choices and maybe experimenting but thats just to much money for me. Thats go fast part money for an engine cover. I cant do it. If it was around $150-$200 maybe, just maybe. But then I heard of maybe leakage issues as well from a local guy.

I guess you do not know what the price of aluminum is now. The cover starts out as alumuinum bricks. And they cost alot more than $20.00
