My wife's new 06 Impala SS has 243 heads.I don't think it has sodium filled valves but it has some sodium in the console from Wendy's.

FWIW, no '04 GTO came with 243 heads. Just plain old 241 heads.

Seems the 243 heads are on just about everything now though.

Are the LS6, LS2 heads all the same 243 castings?

Is there any difference between the LS2 and LS6 heads?

Yes they are both 243's, the only difference is that the LS6 has sodium filled valves

They dissapate heat faster. Which basicly means they dont absorb as much heat from the combustion chamber, so the next batch of air doesnt have as much heat radiated into it as it passes over the valve.

Don't want to hijack but do they change the compression ratio over the 241 heads?

That's kinda like winning a small lottery. Being faster then the next guy straight from the factory. I guess it goes to show that good things come to those who wait. I mean picking up one of the last 02's built

Don't forget the 02-04 LS6 heads have hollow intake valves (in addition to sodium exhaust) and the higher tension yellow valve springs. I want to say titanium retainers too, but I'm not sure on that one. A Z06 has a higher redline than a regular C5 due to the lighter valvetrain.

Those parts are more hype than they are worth. When my car was stock with just a lid and headers I was at the track with a buddy that had a 02 Z06. So we lined up all day- 02 WS6 vs. 02 Z06. I beat him every time. Who leaves the stock stuff on anyway, get a set of ported heads or aftermarket heads and stop worrying about casting numbers

I was build 11/11/2002 and I had 241s from the factory. Did I have to wait another week or what?!?

If part of the VIN corresponds to assembly date, could we figure out at approximately what date the switch occured? It would then be easier to find more of these out there.
