Default Please help with picking my cam???

I have a 99 SS Camaro with 63,000 miles on her. It's an m6 with a lid, long tubes, ory pipe, magnaflow catback, fast intake manifold, UD pulley, and 3.73 gears. I bought a 226/226 112 lsa patriot cam off my friend but I'm not sure if I want to put it in my car. I don't want anything that is too noticable at idle if possible something that sounds close to stock. I already have been stopped by the cops and they popped my hood twice so I don't want anything to noticable and also something that can pass smog. I've been thinking about buying a 224/224 114 lsa. Will it pass smog? Will the cam I have 226/226 pass smog? What do you guys recommend? Thanks a lot!

You can get just about any cam with a smooth idl...I believe a 114LSA would do you just right.

do have headers? plus a cop cant notice if you have a cam just by popping the hood, if your still on stock manifolds thunder racing has the cheaTR cam that you can barely notice its made specifically to work with stock manifolds, also try checking out MTI's stelath series, you cant even tell you have it until you see the numbers

I definitely wouldn't put a 112lsa cam in if you don't want it noticed.

I just put a Comp 222/224 @ 112lsa into my car and it is very lopey, even after tuning... I LOVE it!!!

I reckon 114 - 115lsa may get you what you need.

Cheers and good luck,

Macca

One of our most popular camshafts for those looking to pass emissions is our 224R on a 114 LSA. It has .581" lift, and it has passed emissions in every state that requires it w/ the proper smog equipment in place and functioning properly. If you are wanting it to idle like stock or very close to it, we could always go w/ a wider LSA like a 115. This will help the idle quality. With a custom tune, you'll also have a higher idle that will help to smooth the idle quality. We actually have our camshaft packages on special right now. You can get your choice of camshaft (including custom-grinds), Comp 918 single valve springs, and a set of TSP hardened pushrods for $559.99 + shipping. Feel free to give us a call, and we'll get you setup!

$559 is cheap horsepower. I'd definately take them up on that offer if I had to do it over again.
Of course I'd get a roudy cam again.

What's the difference between the 224R & 224 XE in terms of passing smog? I know the R has a .581 lift vs the XE .566
