I agree once the rings seat it should be good to go.
Had 3 heat cycles and about 5 miles on my motor before it saw 100% throttle on the dyno.
Good luck Tuff I hope LME stands behind there motor.

If you look at this picture you can notice the threads still in the rod end. This tells me that the bolt came out because there is no possible way to still have perfict threads in the rod end.

Im sorry for your loss, that really hurts the pocket book and motivation to keep racing.
Considering the motor has changed hands from original owner, I cant see LME warrantying anything. Nothing against you or your buddy you bought it from, but once parts change hands etc they know nothing about if the rod bolts were removed to check/replace the bearings to freshen it etc and so any failure would normally not be carried under warranty.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your engine failure. It is sometimes hard to analyze
a failure of this nature.
During the assembly of this engine all the rod bolts were initially threaded into the connecting rods with the use of a speed handle. At this point the bolts only reach a torque value of approximately 10 to 15 ft.lbs. After all the piston/rod assemblies were installed, all the rod bolts were torqued to Lunati's spec. It is part of LME's standard assembly procedures to triple check both main and rod bolt torque, after the initial torque. This being said, I believe there is no possible way that a rod bolt was over looked during the initial assembly. The connecting rod bolts are the most highly stressed fastener in any engine. If the rod bolt or bolts in question were left with only the pre torque tightening of 10 to 15 ft.lbs, catastrophic failure would present
itself within minutes of initial engine operation. The engine would have
never made it through the first owner's multiple dyno runs and any other driving or track passes that were done.
Please give me a call tomorrow at your convenience to further discuss the
issue. Although the engine is no longer within the scope of our warranty
policy, LME will help you out as much as we can to get you back up and
racing.
Sincerely,
Bryan Neelen

This was my shortblock. You know how my stuff is used and kept. This short had less than 300 miles on it!!! I really want to get to the bottom of this. I'll call Bryan in the morning to see what he thinks.
I feel like a ***!! I would have thought that motor had a full life left in it. It had to be just broken in. We'll get it figured out.
Andy.

Its good to see LME offering to help you out, but I don't feel this is an LME problem. You are the 2nd owner, and the engine already had miles on it to prove it worked properly. Had that bolt been left loose, it would have failed instantly (seen it happen before). It obviously worked itself loose over time, which sucks.
Whenever I buy a 2nd hand engine, I always go over the nuts/bolts before installing it in a racecar. Its usually a good idea to do this once per race season also.
This situation sucks, hate to see engines destroyed like that. Been there, done that!

I agree and I also know ANDY very well personally and he is a stand up guy for sure, and ironically I just saw him last night with his awesome family at the LOMBARD car show and i know he is SUPER **** about what he puts into his car and what he has built, etc., etc., but as we all know it is industry standard for the engine builder not to warranty the motor in this type of sitation. That having been said, it looks like BRYAN/LME, being the stand up shop that they are, will do whatever they can to help TUFF out of this extremely unfotunate and unforseeable situation, and hopefully he will be up and romping down the 1320 again in the near future!!
