Default LS2 402 or LQ9 408?

Looking to put order in for either one of the two. LS2/402 or LQ9/408? Cant decide which to get for my 01 SS. This setup will be for a street/strip with DP 200-300 shot nitrous. I know the weight difference is from 60-80 lbs, I think? But the LS2 will be a few more $$$ itself/conversion. Is it worth it for my application. Dont know what to get.

I know my car is not a big time corner carver, but how much does this weight difference affect the handling?

If your going to be running a 200-300 shot and are going to be running it at the track a lot then I'd suggest 408 for the extra strength, just like supersporttruck said. I wouldn't run a 402 if your planning on a big shot or a lot of boost, just a little extra security with the 408. I wouldn't worry about the weight difference affecting handling too much, like you said it's mostly a straight line car anyway. I might say otherwise if it was an autocross car but I'd suggest 408 for what your looking for.

whats funny is i havent seen anyone on this forum in the 2+ years ive been here say ANYTHING about popping an aluminum block with nitrous at all. its always been something wrong with the tune, ptv clearance, or other f'ed up clerances, not the block. aluminum is fine, get the 402

i'd go for the alum. block for shooting no more than 200 on it. if you want to go to 300 then i'd say the iron block.

and the weight difference is about 100lbs.

harland made 1200+ hp and ran low 8's on a stock aluminum block.....

I've sprayed 350 to the tire through a TNT F2 kit on a stock alum block for a hundred passes...its not going to break.

I am sure it wouldn't be much different than LT1 era F-bods.

I picked the 408. If I went all out I'd have a turbo and spray and would feel much better with the iron block.

That's funny, eastside was spraying over 350 last year on a alum block afr headed 383, 2 stages, and had no problems with the block, car ran a best of 8.9@151 and had no conerns regarding the block... the block itself is not the weak point.

I like aluminum. This iron crap is just extra weight imo.
