Default Can i start the car to be sure???

If i put the ballancer back on along wit the timing cover of corse could i start the car for like 5 seconds to be sure oil presure is good? The motor would be without coolant for only 4-5 seconds so all should be ok right? I would like to be sure the oil presure is good before i put the rest of the car back together.?

thx

I think that is fairly common in most cases. IF you took out the pump or replaced it....That would be the only time that you would want to check. Theorhetically.

pull the spark plugs and use the starter to turn the engine over for a few cycles. With the plugs out, you'vebasically reduced the load on the engine to zero; save for internal friction. With just the starter turning the motor a few hundred rpms you will deffinatly be able to see oil pressure. I recently saw about 50psi on a friends LS-2 based engine after a rebuild and a good ported/shimmed oil pump.

Well, I guess the question is: What would be normal? Using the technique above will get the pump primed and oil flowing through the engine. If you get pressure that way then stick the plugs in and fire it up. Most people see anywhere from 40-60 psi on startup with cold 5W-30 oil.

I cranked my motor for a few seconds with no coolant and no spark plugs just to make sure my oiling system was good. Worked fine. Make sure to pull the injectors too so you don't leave an excess of fuel in the motor. There really isn't any (...okay "much" for those of you who say friction will cause some heat) heat created when there isn't combustion in the engine that you need a cooling system for. At least not at a couple hundred RPMs.

Just re-read my post. I did not mean to actually remove the fuel injectors, I just meant to unplug them from the wiring harness.

Or just pull your fuel pump fuse.
