Default First Cam Install

Well I just got done installing my cam/springs...... Everything went really good! For any of you that are debating on doing it yourself or taking it to a shop, STOP, do it yourself. It was not that difficult at all. I am not in anyway a car mechanic, I have been a aircraft mechanic for 13 years so using tools and r2'ing parts I do have experience but as long as you have a basic knowledge on using tools, your good to go! I didn't have any problems that sometimes occur like (oil pickup tube bolt install), I did have a problem with the 5/16 dowels, about three lifters would still ride the cam after the dowels were fully installed (yes they were all the way in, went in really easy) so I used the dreaded pin magnets with the lifters that wouldnt stay up. For the ones that did stay up, I had stopped for the night before pulling the old cam, the next morning when I spun the cam again all but the 3 lifters mentioned earlier were still up. I put some super glue on the pen magnets to make sure the magnet didnt come off, and everything went in and out very easy! The crank pully was simple, used 618HAWK's crank pully install tool and it works perfect!! best money ever spent on a tool! Also used the Crane valve spring compressor, I would suggest using this one to do springs, can't beat doing two at once and not having to use one hand to hold them compressed and I used TDC method for keeping the valves up. I followed the write up on ls1howto, and haynes manual, I can honestly say the ls1howto covered EVERYTHING!, I personally did not find anything wrong with it or that was diffrent than the haynes said, it was perfect, who ever wrote that needs an endless supply of beer! Sorry so long, just wanted to share my experience!!

F-18 avionics guy here. We say R+R. I just finished my heads/cam and it was a lot easier than a lot of stuff on a Hornet.

in the middle of doing mine and heads... well the heads are off...
i used the same ls1howto directions and haynes manuel also and they had everything down perfect (even warned you when you will be cussing )only things that slowed me down was definitely that crank pulley (4" pulley puller did wonders though) and that damn oil pump. when i saw the the oil pan needed to be drop, so did my mouth, but it really wasn't that bad. getting the pump off was a bitch with a few jerks and tugs here and there... are the lifters really that bad?... they're next

Air Traffic here. Just started modding my 00 WS6 M6 with bolt ons, not sure if I want to dig into the engine yet. My LS1 may need a boost, so it sounds like a JET!
