Default Cam without headers?

I know it sounds stupid, but I live in CA, and want to be able to pass smog without having to change anything every other year. I'm pretty sure I've decided against getting longtubes, since there have been random smog checks in the area, and I'm not willing to deal with that. I've read in many places that with a good tune, a TR224/224 114 will pass smog without too much of a problem. How accurate is that? How much power would I be getting out of the cam (I know it won't reach its full potential without the headers) with the mods I currently have? (Just catback, lid, K&N)

Also, what kind of costs am I looking at for it installed?

i dont see why you wouldnt be able to pass a smog inspection with that cam.. even with stock exhaust you'll definitely feel it pull harder.. good luck

thunder racing's cheaTR cam is specially designed for stock manifolds and would be the better choice for your situation...

that 224/224 prefers LT's

Might want to PM Predator-Z about the cam he has in his Vette. IRC, his Vette still has all the stock exhaust.

210/224, .555/.568 115+1 LSA (XE lobes)
Peak 5900, shift 6100 (but carries to 6300 nicely)
cam range from 1600>6300

Wow, I didn't think a smallish 224/224 would need the longtubes, too. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out the cheaTR cam, too.

If you're worried about emissions, get some midlength headers. They'll flow better than stock and you'll be able to get more of the cam you want.

Cali only allows shorties (CARB) certified. Relocating of cats is forbidden.

California hates its residents.

What kind of numbers could I reasonably expect with that cam, my catback, lid with K&N? Somewhere in the neighborhood of 350rwhp with a tune? I don't plan on getting heads.

There are diminishing gains with increased overlap without headers. TR 224 is a -4 and is about as big as it is really worth going. The cheater makes good power up for a cam that revs to 6600 on stock manifolds. As An alternative, you run something like a 216/224 112 110 using the Cheater intake. It would make a bunch of torque and pull strongly to 6000 - 6200.

My cam is very torquey too.

There are quite a few choices:
LPE GT2-3
LS6
CheaTR

These are high reving cams, meaning power is increased mostly after 4000 rpm.

Then good old
Comp 216/220

And my cam which is a blend of LS6/CheaTR/Vinci VE's. designed to act stock with increased trq/Hp throughout the band.
