Default The quest for the ultimate street head and cam set up please help!!!

I am in the market for heads and cam for my 2001 formula. I have done countless hours of reading here on LS1 tech and have came to the conclusion that this better left to the pros as I am more confused now than I was before on what head and cam to go with. I want to go with some sort of Patriot heads since I am on a budget. My goals are run on 91-octane make 400 rwhp and be super streetable, as I will probably never see the track. I do not want to rev the engine more than 6,300 rpm.

My mods are
Lid and k&n filter
25% under drive pulley
160 t stat
F.A.S.T 78 mm TB
LS6 intake
LT headers will be added along with off road Y when I do the heads and cam
Corsa exhaust
I also have Moser 12 bolt with 4.11 gears and a LS7 clutch
Car is a 6 speed

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks,
Fernando

Since you have an M6 and all the bolt-ons, you can hit 400rwhp with just about any aftermarket cam and head combo.

- "super" streetable
- shift before 6,300rpm
- 400 rwhp

To meet your minimum requirements you could go with a very mild lift, small duration comp-cam like a 216/220 .525ish/.525ish 114 LSA.

Of course, you could go with a newer, more aggressive lift cam, gain more power, and still be streetable by most standards. I'm sure others will chime in shortly along these lines. Check out Thunder Racing and TSP.

Good luck.

id go check out the dyno results section. they have tons of guys doing h/c combos and cam only cars that are 400+ rwhp. or just read around and look at other peoples sigs, most have thier mods listed with the hp. or search "best street cam" and see where you land.

definitely check out tsp for heads. they got a nice deal on prc heads. of course patriot as always has good deals. id go with a tr224 on a 114 lsa for super streetability and a nice set of ported heads. im sure u could get into a h/c package for around 1500. u have so many choices

COMP XER273 and RHS 225cc heads are a killer combination.

Being in Northern Cali, emissions are an issue.
So a cam with -6* overlap is the safest bet.
TR 224 will pass with the right tune.
Long Tubes are forbidden in Cali, so if you want to stay legit, a set of shorties is the best you can do legaly.

IMO, best cam to satisfy Cali's "green" power would be a CheaTR cam, will .040 Cometic gaskets and a set of PP or PRC 243 casting (milled a bit to achieve closer to 8.5 DCR).
A tune is mandatory so budget that in as well.
Since you are 2001, no need for headers (those are as good as shorties).
This combo will put you in the 400 mark, you'll be totaly legit as well.

So say I get a set of PP heads like 2.02"/1.57"/64cc or should I go with 59cc and .040 Cometic gasket and a CheaTR cam. What would my SCR and DCR be at and how much would I need to mill the heads to achieve the right SCR and DCR. I will be running on 91 octane.

I would contact PP - they sell cams and have some mild grinds. They can tell you the PTV, C/R Chamber volume etc and you can calculate the DCR easily.

226/226 Dur. @. 050 .585"/. 585" Lift 112 LSA
232/230 Dur. @. 050 .580"/. 580" Lift 110 LSA
The only two cams that are on PP site. I was thinking about the 226/226 cam or something similar to that but now that is was brought up that I could achieve 400 rwhp and still pass CA smog with the cheaTR I might as well go that rout

None of these 2 cams will pass emissions in Cali.
