Q about '241' heads
I'm looking to find a good used set of 241's that I will send to my local performance engine shop for machine and port work before installing in combo with a cam. I'd like to find a 2nd set, so that I can have them prepped ahead of time and the job becomes just a head/cam swap. Besides, by keeping the factory original set, I can always put it back to stock, should I decide to.
Do I need to find a set from an '04 GTO, or can I use a set from earlier Camaros, Firebirds, and Vettes?
Thanks for any advice you may offer.
i have heard that some of the 241s were cast using a different method, but there should be basically no flow difference between them.
you might want to look into a 243 casting (LS6/LS2), it might be better for what you have in mind, and Patriot is have a pretty good deal on them until labor day.
its a casting # the castings are the same
its like 243 heads, they are all the same, just that LS6 243s have diffrent valves than LS2 243s, heads are the same.

I was just worried about the bolt holes, etc. for engine accessories being identical. Figured that was more about the machining process after they've been cast.
I'd hate to buy a set of '241's' from an earlier model, take them to have them machined, ported, polished, assembled, etc. then go to do the swap only to find out my powersteering pump mount doesn't line up....GRRRR!
Just trying to think ahead! Maybe I'll just go with a set from a GTO, that way I don't have to worry about it. Enough GTO owners are doing head swaps and the 241's are common and seem to have fallen out of favor enough that I should be able to P/U a set pretty reasonable!
Thanks All!
