Im about to pick up a ls1 hot cam for cheap and was wondering if it would be able to drive and actually get good numbers with the stock torque converter, i want to get a bigger cam for now until i update to heads and get a race tranny for now the hot cam would be fine just wondering if it would be ok with the stock tc

It will "suffice". By that, I mean, you will be able to drive the car from point A to point B no problem. But You will be leaving power on the table mostly by running the stock converter.

I did it for a few months. The only problem was the surging when coming to a stop. I thought it wasn't that big of a sacrifice, until I got a TC.

If you don't know the difference, then it will be a minor adjustment.

Surging - at least to me is the feeling where the engine speeds up and slows down all by itself. It kinda feels like the vehicle is bucking a little, but its nothing big. Check this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...=532533&page=2

I tuned a 2001 TA A4 with that cam with a stock converter and he put down around the 375HP range. The best he did at the track was 12.1 at 116mph, yes stock converter!

With the proper tune, it won't surge with that cam and stock converter.

Cam should be fine unless it looks tore up, get pics.

You'll also need pushrods and springs. Get the LS6/Z06 springs from SDPC for around $53.00

The car wants to go, so you have to mash the brake more to keep it from moving.

I would compare it to power braking at 1500-2000rpms, yet you are at idle (800rpms).
