the HotCam is a GM cam that you can find in Summit. alot of people don't like it, i've got it and its ok.

the best place to start is here at the Sticky on the top of this forum...

You'll need to get springs and pushrods to compliment the cam. Another good choice might be a 224/224 -114. It's a good all around cam and proven performer.

Dont waste money on the hot cam it doesnt really make any power. You should go with a G5x2. Its a really good cam you will definetly need pushrods and springs though. 400 dollars idnt going to cut I can tell you that right now. It will cost that much just to tune it.

I just talked to someone the other day and he said that with the correct cam setup (even on a stock LS1) can get you up to 400 hp. So I'm taking a guess here, but with your mods and a cam you would probably be around 420 hp. I heard this was a great cam to start with......... the V.2 ......http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item..............And I just noticed that they now have the V.3, with the V.3 I would definately get the springs and rods. http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=669&catid=44.... I don't know much about cams either but I talked to a few people from Texas Speed and that is what they recomended. Hope it helps.

Don't go very small and don't go huge if you don't know what you want. I was in the same dilema a few months back. A good 224-226 duration cam is probably what you are looking for.

I have heard good things about the TSP 224/224, but I went with a custom ground 224/228.

Great drivability, good power, and didn't kill the gas mileage.

I saw someone talking about the biggest cam lift without changing anything .. is there any limit !!! I mean I can't run a cam cause it's lift is big !!!

- Don’t succumb to the temptation to put the biggest cam you can find into your daily driver
good point !!

Unfortunately, the stock springs and pushrods are only good enough for the stock cam--with very few exceptions. Upgrades are needed for the better cam choices. Watch the For Sale section for some Comp 918's (less expensive--or a good deal on a set of dual springs), some hardened pushrods and then get a cam (one with lift numbers to go with the springs). The Comp 918's are good to 0.600 lift). If you are lucky, you might find a used cam, springs and pushrods for around $400. Otherwise, you'll have to save some more to do it right.

i didnt go real big on the cam i just bought, which might have been a mistake but i really dont want to go to a higher tq converter. im kinda new at this but from what i've heard, these are all the things to get with any cam..... dual valve springs, retainers, seals, locks, pushrods, lifters, ls2 timing chain, and ls6 ported oil pump....and if you have 2.73 gears like i do, go BIGGER!!!! 3.73's are a common choice

$400 budget isn't enough. The camshaft alone is $400. You also need springs, pushrods, and a new torque converter since you have a automatic. Timing chain, oil pump, a few gaskets, and a bolt are a good idea too. I'm guessing someone else is installing it. You're going to need a tune afterwards too.

As far as camshaft selection; 224R and 228R are both goods ones. Don't bother with the GM Hotcam.

I had the TR224 and now I have the 228R. Both on a 114. I liked the TR224 better, but Id change it to the TR224 on a 112

depending on what size cam you get, you may not NEED a tq converter, get a cam that you want. if you dont want to do a tq converter, get a cam that you can use on the stock setup

$400 is not going to be enough for a cam swap, you need pushrods and springs, usually a good idea for gaskets when puting stuff back togather, new timing chain, and you wont get a cam for much less than $400, Plus before you do the cam i would get headers first so the car can breath.
