I think as far as drivability goes, a lot of it is in the tune I have heard that a lot of people DD a trex and have no complaints

why do you want the nastiest cam for a daily driver? you want the power to be usable right? i dont see you spending time in the 6500-8000rpm range driving your car everyday

don't forget about all the random BS you're gonna need to buy too...the '98 being the bastard year, gonna have to get some other stuff if you swap heads,

Coil brackets, centerbolt valve covers, water pump gaskets and PCV hose,
better get a different oil pump too. LS6 or something along those lines, a ported one.

you can get a lot of stuff for $6G's. if you are decent with a wrench, a heads/cam swap isn't that bad. i've done a few to mine now. and like that one sticky say's

it's all about a system. make sure everything works well with everything else, don't just blindly go out and buy the "biggest most expensive" everything.

All these guys say read...I just searched on all the topics that I was interested about and I found all the info and a few guys helped out a long the way including orangepeel.

I found that I wanted to keep my stock heads for now...so this is what I went with...

Cam :
230/236 .598/.598 111 lsa

Springs:
REV 1116 or Patriot Gold Duals

Oil Pump:
LS6 Oil Pump

Timing Chain:
LS2 Timing Chain

Push Rods:
chromoly 7.400 (stock length)

Exhaust:
Hooker LTs, magnaflow true duals.

Thats me my buddys car with the same cam, but he had heads was pushing 475rwhp. (with a good tune) so we'll see where I'm at with stock heads.

If you can do most of the installs yourself then yes. Dez racing supplied me with my 232/238 cam, hardened pushrods, dual valve springs, titanium retainers, ls2 timing chain, powerbond 25% underdrive pulley, ported my stock throttle body, and installed the following (which I brought): bilstein hd's on slp springs, ls6 intake, new rotors and pads, ls7/ls2 clutch/flywheel combo, weld in subframes, adj panhard rod, lower controll arms, gutted my stock cats, and dyno tuned the entire package for $3300. So figure $3300 for the cam kit, instllation of all those parts, and dyno. Then the parts above:

ls6 intake = $400 new from slp online
bmr 2 point weld in subframes = $150
UMI lcas = $100
UMI adj panhard rod = $100
bilsteins and springs = $500
rotors and pads = $300

since you dont need the clutch then figure:

4000 stall = $500
B&M tranny cooler = $300
pacesetters + ory = $500
magnaflow = $400
so 3300 + 400 + 150 + 100 + 100 + 500 + 300 + 500 + 300 + 500 + 400 = $6550

So yes it can be done and if you already have som eof thos eitems then it will be even less and the only things I installed myself were my headers and y-pipe, everything else was done by dez racing. If you install a lot of the stuff by yourself you could probably do the job for around $5000 or so and you would be looking at around 400+ rwhp cam only and have a sick drag setup that will work great on the street.

Don't go higher than 23x on the duration and you won't hate yourself in the future.

I started off with a stock 99 A4. I'm not done yet, but I can tell you exactly what I would do if i did a whole setup at once. Read up on doing the installs and do them yourself. That's what I did and everything has been turning out perfectly. I went from not even knowing how to change my own oil to doing headswaps myself.

LS6 intake = $330
Ported throttle body = $50 + original
Dart 205's = $1200
G5X4 cam (good dyno AND track numbers) = $400
160* Thermostat = $40
Edelbrock headers/ORY = $600
Hooker catback = $330
Fuddle 4000 stall = $400
TransGo shift kit / B&M Tranny cooler = $150
Motive 3.90:1 gears = $220
UMI LCA's/PHR = $165
UMI Torque arm = $350
UMI subframes = $150
QA1 springs/shocks = $350
Drag radials = $300

Total: $5035
