was your A/F tuned with a wide band while spraying? what kind of fuel system, timing, plugs, & octane were you running? how big of a shot?

Ya, what he asked..

If you didn't damage the cyl, you could rebuild the block with forged pistons, if you are on a budget.

it was not tuned with a wide band, o2s were at 890 the whole run, they never leaned out, tr6s, stock timing, it never had a blimp of knock, it was a 150 shot on 93 octane.

my coolant was pretty shitty looking when i drained it out, so im pretty sure that didnt help out to much.

and Chad, if you want to help me, you can sell your car so we can build a bad *** motor for my car

I had a similar problem, My piston looked exactly like that, and when I pulled the motor, I found the sleeve to be cracked.
Take your time with it, be patient, start shopping......

I dont even think it is worth resleeving. If it is cracked, your probably better off getting a new block. Thats what I did.
Keep us posted.

Get the motor on a stand and get her all apart. If the cylinder walls are all good, get a set of pistons hone it out, polish the crank install new cam.rod, and main bearings with ARP rod bolts and head bolts along with a new timing chain and oil pump. You'd have about $1500 in it if that's all that's wrong with it if you do it yourself. You saved yourself close to 1k if you can go that route.

ya, that would be the cheaper and easy way, but i like the idea of bigger is better, but my budget can only take me so far, so im not positive on what im going to do yet.

i have both heads off now and everything looks good. im hoping the block is in good shape and the motor can be an easy fix if just the piston is chipped and everything else is fine. i need to get ahold of a cherry picker to get the bitch out sometime soon.

JDP, I can build you a forged shortblock for $3500 and I don't need any of your parts, can ship it in 2 or 3 weeks

It's tight, but it will come out the top if the intake is removed first, plus the upper belhousing bolts are the easiest to get to from the top with no intake.

ya, im sure there is enough room once i get the radiator out, there is no top half o the motor, the intake is out along with both heads, so there is a lot more room in there.

When it happened to me, I also took the heads off while the motor was in the car, and thought all it was was a busted piston.
It wasnt until I pulled the motor, then ulled the piston, to see the crack on the cylinder sleeve.
If you can, try to feel the cylinder walls.
I hope you get by with just a busted piston!
