302's are known to not make much power. Less power=less vacuum. Of course the weak vacuum on the 302 will not induce oil consumption issues. I can only imagine how ridiculously high the vacuum on his 427 decelerating from 5000 rpms in gear is. It's already high in just the LS1. I am guessing it's a valve seal problem.
