You need to base cam specs on more than just noise. And as for best sounding, well everyone will have an opinion and non will be right or wrong. I may like a sound you really hate or vice versa.
Plus, heads, intake, exhaust, mufflers and idle will affect the sound just as much.
If you truly want a nasty sounding cam, then quite simply you need a nasty cam! But with it will come all the woes of such a setup.
overlap = lope
The Thunder Racing TREX has a lot of overlap for an a off the shelf cam, but you'll need all the supporting mods for driveability and durabilities sake.
If you're gonna talk the talk you better be able to walk the walk!

Poll: Meanest Sounding Cam
I'm sure a quick search using the a combination of some of these words will help out: "sound", "cam", "mean", "idle", "wot", etc.
likes stated above, there r many factors that effect sound. u will read all about it. and yes performance should be first, but most people will agree that they want their car to sound a certain way, as well. goodluck. and keep listening to those clips, thats the best way i can think of to find wut u like.

Right up there with putting a 5" exhaust tip on a econo car with a 1.5" exhaust system just because the tip looks cool.

but being this if 4 a show car (not a race car) that is just driven maybe on the weekends
i am more on the sound side
maybe it is lame but it is what i want
Thunder Racing 230/224 111 +0. It'll sound mean at idle, and make good power too without having to have a F.A.S.T. 90mm intake/throttle body. It doesn't have that much overlap so can get by with just headers and a catback.
Other big points are, it doesn't have big peak lift numbers so expect valve springs to last a while if you're doing your part and not beating on them when it's cold etc.
This is a good street cam that will have a good idle and make good power. With a good tune, it'll drive very easy on the street.
This is my favorite LS1 cam for the street. Do a search for this cam. Everyone that has it is very well pleased.

what is it with people wanting just the sound? if you want something that sounds good just go buy an LS1 hotcam and spring kit from GM and have someone else install it for you, because you obviously shouldnt be doing it yourself

I gained alot of audible lope when I switched from an x-pipe to a y-pipe setup, so you know it's not all in the cam.
I also have to agree with the others about not picking by the "sound".
