Ping but only at launch with Nittos ??? I have not had any problems with detonation since getting rid of the ported ends but now that I have Nittos I have noticed that when I hammer it from a dead stop(A4)it lets out a single ping???? just on the launch it sounds like I can hear 1 single light ping everytime I launch? what gives?????any ideas????? I am running a Pace MAF with great results, it pinged with ported MAF ends but the Pace took care of most of that except with this launch problem, could 1 single light ping cause KR???

Re: Ping but only at launch with Nittos ??? Are you sure it's an engine ping and not a driveshaft tink? The tink is VERY common with automatic cars with aluminum driveshafts.

Re: Ping but only at launch with Nittos ??? This may sound goofy, but try cleaning your MAF wires. Whenever I start getting low-RPM ping, I clean the MAF wires with aerosol brake cleaner and it goes away for a little while. It may not solve your particular problem, but it doesn't hurt to try. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

Re: Ping but only at launch with Nittos ??? The knock sensor could be picking this up and retarding the timing, therefor you don't hear any more pinging after the first couple seconds. the only way to know for sure is to ATAP it. The nitto's are hooking up and putting a load on the engine.

I would say that single ping would mean you're right on the ragged (but good) edge of tuning. When you launch hard like you say you are, the engine is put in a very harsh transition phase, and the spark timing takes a split second to catch up. The motor takes a huge jolt from a dead start like you are doing and can give an audible ping for a quick second like you describe. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
