Anyone in here running 02 LS6 Cam?
Trending Topics
There are SEVERAL grinds that Comp cams offer that are very small, not noticeable, and will make more power than a weakling LS6 cam. They are actually worth the time to install.
Let's see here.....
212/212 .525/.530 115 lsa
Just a wide stab, but that grind or something similar wouldn't even be noticed unless you were looking for it. Very easy on springs, easily ran with stock tuning, and would provide more power all across the board.
Food for the though guys..

Alright. As much as I appreciate your opinions on the LS6 02 cam, I am searching for direct experience with the cam on the car w/ or without dyno #'s(would be helpful) and or any knowledge on what has to be done in order to run it on our f-bodys.

I can't help you with gains and such most people who install this cam don't seem to talk about it much . However, you'll need just the cam, and 02 LS6 springs to install it. Almost all gaskets on an LS1 can be reused, but it's always a good idea to have a spare set laying around. Other than that, you're good to go.

A guy I know down in southern, GA is running one is his 2001 Firehawk. With the LS6 cam, most of the normal bolt ons, ls6 intake, he was running 109.5 mph traps in an M6.
FWIW, I ran 109 mph with a lid and catback.
Are you saying the cam slows him down. He is probably one of the worst shifters in the state. Dyno #'s would be the key.
Firehawk 2001, most bolt ons, ls6 intake and Ls6 cam, only runs 109 traps.

No, I am not saying the cam "slowed" him down. If I remember correctly, he let 3 different people drive his car that night. None of the 3 could run it any better than he could. Needless to say I was very disappointed considering the mods.
After running low 12's backed by 114 mph traps with a STOCK motor, n/a, and some small bolt ons I truely believe this cam is a waste of time. Guy's who can't even get out of the 13's will probably tell you different. It's all in preferance and how you want to spend your time&money. If you feel like facing the trial/error of this cam, go for it man. I wish the best of luck to you. I only speak from what I have seen and done.
Again, good luck....

Joe.
I know that you dont want to hear it, but dont even waste your time. I at one time wanted an 01 LS6 cam, but realized that I should spend slightly more money on a Comp custom grind and get a decent amt. more power. If you are going to go through the trouble of installing a cam, you might as well get one that will add decent power. Like stated above, 212/212 ~.525" 115LSA will net good results, very noticable over stock cam, but still idle really well

Now we can have some more OMC discussions.
'01 LS6 cam pro's and con's:
pro's: dirt cheap, don't need comp 941 springs, no ill driveability side effects, stock idle, and mpg.
con's: There are plenty of streetable aftermarket cams out there that make more power.
Personally I don't see whay anyone would run an '02 LS6 cam over an '01 LS6 cam. The difference in hp is negligable and the '02 cam is much more $$$ as it requires the valves to be changed to the taller ones which are $42 a piece .
