Default ASP Crank Pulley.....Worth it?

I am putting the new Covnerter in here in the next week, and was looking to do a "bolt-on" mod as well...was hoping to do the "headers", but money will not permit, so I am leaning toward the pulley...
I have heard anywhere from 5 to 10 rwhp, for about $220..

any thoughts?
thanks for the help...

I have had an ASP crank pulley on my car for about 30,000 miles, never had a problem with charging. I did mine at the same time I did my Vig 2800 convertor so I can not tell you what it gave me but most guys see .10-.12 reduction in ET and 1 MPH in trap speed. Do it! People rarely mention that the ASP pulley is lighter then stock as well, and we all know weight off the front end is a great thing, even if it is only a couple pounds!

Crank pullies are $160 usually...then you have to buy the belts...

I would say they are worth it, people usually see a tenth improvement in the quarter mile....

And the only problems would be charging...that all depends...

They have proven themselves repeatedly, anywhere from 0-10 hp on the dyno, and even though it may not show up in HP, it will at the track.. I agree on .1-.15 and 1mph. You can get away with crank and alternator pullies as long as you dont have an excessively high wattage stereo system. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">

Is it ok to run the ASP pullies on a car that's nitrous equipped? (6 speed car)

Thanks <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

I just got a set of ASP Crank and Alt pulleys on mine.
I went to the dyno the next friday and it showed no difference in HP. Although I can feel a huge difference in the way the car continuously pulls.

I am going to try a different dyno place that has a new dynojet and see if my numbers change at all.

I would recommend them as a good mod. no charging problems with the alt pulley either, but lunaticTA who has a a4 has been saying that in traffic its falling well into the yellow on the volt meter.

What belt you need depends on whether you got just the crank pulley or also the alternator pulley. I don't know the part numbers right off hand but you might try a search here. You could also measure the length once it/they is/are installed.

A new crank bolt is best. These are TQ to yeild bolts.

I have the ASP pulley & have not had any probs with it, either with or without the N20. I did free up a little HP & TQ also.

Colonel is correct about the TTY bolt. Get a new one.

The ASP Pulley is good for around 5-8 HP but you can feel the engine rev quicker. I noticed a SOTP difference the first day I had the pulley on. Not a big difference but noticeable. Worth the $$$ IMO. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

I was seriously considering doing this when I do the cam this spring, but I’m starting to have second thoughts. I’ve had cars with charging issues before and it drove me nuts! I’m going to try and keep stock tuning with the cam (comp 212/218) and I’m guessing the car will have enough issues idling as is without adding on more charging loss with the crank pulley. What do you guys think?

For crank and alternator pulleys use Gates (or equivalent) belt part number K060770 for alternator and K040378 for AC. With just the crank pulley use K060760 for alternator. The ac remains the same with alternator pulley, K040378.

I picked up two tenths and 1.5 mph.

These part numbers are for the "crank replacement" only.
NAPA Part# for the AC belt is 040378 (9/16" x 38-1/2")

NAPA Part# for the Crank belt is 060760 (27/32" x 76-5/8")

I have done MANY that have not used a new bolt. Yet, I DO recommend that one is used. If new, there is no need for locktight, it comes already added from GM. If used... add a dab of lock tight for the added safety.

Good luck.
