Default 6.0 LS1 head set up questions (milling/shimming)..

How much is needed to be milled off 6.0 heads to achieve 11 to 1 CR with stock displacement LS1?
What cc chamber to get 11 to 1?

Also what shims are needed for rockers once heads are milled to get 11 to 1 CR?

Where is the best place (price in mind) to get new head bolts and valve guide seals?

6 liter truck heads have about a 70 cc chamber stock. To get to 11.0 CR on a stock 346 LS1 you will need about a 60 cc chamber. I'm not sure how much milling is required for a 10 cc chamber drop. It may be more than you can safely mill and may require some welding in the chambers to get 11.0 CR. Best bet would probably be to mill the heads .030" and take whatever CR you end up with.

Anybody else know about this?
Can you safely mill enough off to achieve 11 to 1 CR?

How much CR will milling 0.040 in. off the heads yield?

Does the chamber diameter match up the the 346 ci.
bore diameter or is other work needed for the match up?

For Every 6 thou you take off, its approx. 1 CC, LS6 milled ~20 thou is a 60 cc combustion chamber

Anyone know of a part number for thinner than stock head gaskets? I am trying to gain C/R with that and milling.

Okay, everyone knows that the 6.0L heads have bigger chambers... are they "deeper" or "wider"?? For instance, is the chamber the same in all regards save depth??

They are slightly wider in diameter. Not sure about depth.

Someone posted in another thread. I forget the exact number. Try a search on 6.0L heads or gaskets.

I know of a set of 6.0L heads milled 0.030" that had 63 cc combustion chambers with Ferra (spelling) valves.

You would need around 60cc to get the 11:1 you want like 2Quick4U stated above.

I will try and CC my valves tonight and see what the stock ones take up.

I will look at the valve size and get back to you.

Sorry, don't have the valve size wrote down. I will have to find that out. I also didn't get to cc my valve recesses. I will get to it by Monday. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Wizkid,
Do you know what size Ferrea's he was using?
I am running 2.02 and 1.55's.

I wonder how much having the flat faces ferrea valves decreased chamber volume.

Hopefully I can find some thin gasket and mill to 0.042 and get around 11 to 1 C/R.
