New info on GM PCV valve fix....
Guys, I just learned through my dealership(I work in parts)that GM has released a new PCV valve to "fix" the oil consumption problems..The part is called a fitting that has the new revised valve in it. I won't have it in my hands until Friday. I am going to try it in my car to see if it helps. I will keep you guys posted. Joe...

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
Joe,
I've got about 12 or so in the past two months from TAN. It is just a pcv valve wiht a fixed orface no valve in them at all. It is mainly to fix excessive oil consumption on trucks and SUV. It has been noted that when running the trucks at high speeds or when towing they consume oil at a rapid rate. This is due to the pcv valve and the Eaton type lifter pumping 6 times more oil to the top end of the engine. If you take a valve cover off and run the engine it will sqirt oil 2 bays over. They have more info coming on what they want to do about the lifters. I recommended to the powertrain group that they have a fix already. Use the LS6 valley cover for crank case ventallation. It would be a simple intake R&R. would be quick and easy

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
The orificed PCV valve isn't really meant for the cars. We've used them in Suburbans, and pickups mostly. I've also installed the LS6 valley plate on a 99 LS1, it required some "grinding" of the block to make it fit. There was an aluminum boss that was right in the way of the breather assembly. Not sure if there is anything on the 5.3L truck engines that would interfere. Have you tried installing one on a truck Darren? What about the PCV lines since the vacuum source is on the opposite side of the intake as the LS1/LS6? I may give that a try on the next one that drinks oil. We have tried the lifter part number that TAC gave us for only one particular Suburban, they said the same thing about the lifters.

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
hi, can you explain how having no valve, an orifice instead reduces the amount of oil flow via pcv ?
with the valve it only sucks via pcv system when you have vacumn, backing off part throttle etc. with no valve it would suck most of the time, and at wot allow any blowby into manifold (even though little vacumn at WOT, but nothing to stop or slow it), correct ?
I need to understand how this helps...Is the truck system the same as the other ls1 pcv systems?

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
Joseph, thanks for the good info. I did know that it was for the truck LS1's. A Tech at my dealership is installing a new 5.3 in a Tahoe and gave me the info on the new valve. I think the Rings TSB is what most people have..I will post back more info when I have it. Joe..

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
I just plumbed a small filter after the first PCV valve (Mine is a 98) and installed another PCV valve inline after the filter. I haven't had any problems since with oil consumption and the car is idling smoother as well.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
When I got the updated 99 heads for my 98 I had to kind of come up with a PVC system since the 98 and 99's differ a little going into the drivers side valve cover and was deleted on the pass side for the 99's and newer. I just got a regular old 90 degree GM PCV valve, stuck it in the valve cover and routed a hose from the PCV valve to the front of the manifold. No more oil consumption for me. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">
If you want pictures I will try to come up with some soon. It was too easy.

Re: New info on GM PCV valve fix....
I don't really have oil consumption.
I capped off the rear pcv outlets and just run the LS6 pcv system plus the front one on the passenger side valve cover.
