Default Can't get drivers header up (Grott)

I can't get the drivers side header up guys. I took out the oil filter, she just won't go. Maybe I need to jack up the car more, not really sure. Any ideas? Can you come in from the top? TIA.

the car has to be WAY up in the air to do the Grot install. once it is high enough tilt the header up on end and just work it in there. you should see what Im talking about when you start it this way.

you might have to take the oil drain plug out as well. I know a friend of mine did the install and he had to take the drivers side motor mount out, I got lucky and didnt have to

This method has been proven by the pro's, I definately recommend going this route.

Yes, I autoX...the nittos are awesome up front as long as its not cold or rainy. How people can just have them on the back, I dont know....the way I drive, the understeer was unbearable with sticky tires on back and normal tires up front.

Nitto drags all around was my only real choice....and since I have a 2nd car (a mustang GT) for rain and cold, it works out well. You dont know how well these cars can take corners until you slap some nice rubber on em.

FWIW, I now use Kuhmo Victoracer V700 autox tires for autox events, but I loved the drags so much I kept them on my daily driven wheels.

You standin on my nutz?

I dont wash cars that dont run! My last 3 coats of zaino went on my mustang anyways...

Once this SS runs again you can be sure it'll be clean once again.

Like mentioned, car has to be HIGH. My headlights were at chest level (I'm 6' ). I put the jack on some ramps and jacked under the engine crossmember (maybe 2% safer than jmX's method above but not much). Pull the oil pan drain plug. It's GOT to be out.

My Grots slipped right up in with the above steps, no prob.

So are you guys saying that the hard part of installing LTs is getting the car high enough? Thats not a problem for me anymore ( thank god for autolifters ).

98SS#2018, I just ordered 2 o2 extensions from thunderracing.com about half an hour ago.

Give them a call, they have them in stock...$25 a pop.

TA_2001, I'm not sure whats worse...a cheap jack stacked on some mustang magazines or a $40 walmart jack

Yeah...THe only trick on getting the Grotts in my SS was getting the car high enough safely. I had to get it *way* up there. Then it just *barely* goes in.

I heard a *true* story about a guy once who couldnt get it high enough so he dug a really deep hole in his yard, put his wife and the header in the hole, and then pushed the car over it so she could finnagle it in...

That *aint* right.

BTW...

Awesome pic Jon. In some ways Im sorry that "Some Guy" wasnt there to see that, but then again, Im not sorry "some guy" didnt have to get underneath the car with Mustang Books to support it
