Default AIR Restrictor mod on stock manifolds?

I have a ticking on the passenger side of my engine while its running and when I turn the car off it winds down to a slow tick before it finally shuts off. Is this the AIR system making the noise? Is this what the restrictor mod eliminates?

If its not the AIR, what could the ticking be?

TIA
RYan

On my car the sound was more like a leaking header sound. it wasn't noticable untill you got to about 2000 rpm and certainly didn't continue when the engine was shut down. doesn't sound the same to me.

You can pull the AIR valve and look at it. They get kinda burnt from the header tick.

Thanks ragtop. This was a day or two ago so Ill double check, but I definately remember the ticking continuing after the car was shut off. And it doesnt sound like an exhaust leak, its a pretty distinct ticking.

Also, I tried raising the idle via the idle stop screw and i reasied a bit but surges much worse. additionally, it will wind down to about 1200 while slowing at a stoplight and then kick down to idle speed and start surging. Im going to work on that toady, but maybe someone has a solution.

TIA
Ryan

Your exhaust manifolds have a one way check valve for the air tube. This keeps hot exhaust from going into the air tube. When they fail (been there), it makes a familiar ticking noise that sounds like a header leak. Check these. They're easy to replace.
