Digging up a 10+ year old thread....

Too bad the cast crank thing didn't happen (or I missed it).

It's amazing what 10+ years of competition and the flood of aftermarket parts will do for a platform

Thanks, but I was referring to the cast crankshaft part.

Not understanding what you mean? Saying that since these cranks are now under $1,000 (the price that was listed in this thread for a cast crank) that a cast one would be even less? Getting a better crank than what was talked about in this thread, for less than what was also talked about in this thread, seems like a good deal.

Common sbc cast cranks are usually no more than 500$.tops
they are mostly imported castings, even some of the forged ones. Most are claimed to or are machined in the states.
I highly doubt the mfgs. In the ls market will allow cast stroker cranks like sbc versions to be around. A mfg is not gonna sell you a 300$ crank, when they can sell a 900$ one.
Ive bought and used one of those 300$ 383 cast stroker cranks and the motor is still in use today. Almost 8 yrs.

When the ls1 has been around for 50 years...I bet they'll be cheap stroker cranks available

I can tell you Scat is not interested in doing a cast crank, as I spent about 2 weeks arguing with them over whether or not the stock crank is forged, and requires gun drilling (the truck crank is not drilled).

I've been working up a pattern, but I want to finish building my lathe. I've got a local foundry that can cast up to 8000 lbs castings, but I need to finish the pattern to bring to them first.

Someday we'll see an American made cast steel LSx crank. Too many projects, not enough time

I'll bite... WHY? Why would you go through the trouble of casting a crank when good forgings are available for less than the prices listed in the early part of this thread?
