It depends on how bad it is and what needs to be done. Will you be forging the internals?

Definately:
Hone
polish crank
Piston Rings - $150
Main bearings - $50
Rod Bearings - $50
Cam Bearings - $30
Lifters - $200
Timing chain - $30
Oil Pump - $130
Valvesprings and seals - $200
Misc gaskets and seals - $200

Optional:
Forged pistons - $600
Forged Rods - $600
Forged Crank - $900

I have been looking into this as well. With all of the good deals on shortblocks it is almost cheaper to go out and buy a brand new one. You could then sell your stock motor or rebuild it as a spare.

Save the money and drive your stock engine till either you have enough to buy the new short block or the old one goes as it will be your best bet. 346/347 forged shortblocks can be bought from sponsors on here for $3000, and you can make money back selling your stock short block. I dont think it makes sense to refresh your stock shortblock if its still running strong, especially if your going to go through all the trouble of pulling the engine only to put stock stuff back in.

Id suggest using synthetic oil if youre not already, although its late in the game to switch... Id do it anyway, and hope you dont get any leaks that were previously plugged with conventional oil sludge.
