Default SLP Loudmouth & Bullet Muffler?

I just installed the SLP Loudmouth cat back and my wife says it is to loud. Would replacing the resonator with a "bullet" muffler reduce the drone? Are bullet mufflers stainless and who has the best cost? Please help I don't want to have to put the stock exhaust back on.

Thanks

Lots of people on other forums have replaced the resonator with a bullet muffler and are happy with the results.

I have a Loudmouth on my car, but I love the noise. Especially with my longtube headers and highflow cats. It is badass sounding at wide open throttle.

But, if you have an automatic, it would drone you out of the car. I don't know if you have an M6 or not, but I am assuming that you have an A4 if you are complaining of droaning.

If you want, go to LS1.com and do a search for bullet mufflers on the Loudmouth. You will find lots of hits there.

What you should have done is take the cats off and run an ORY pipe the first time your wife heard it. It would be waaaaay too loud for her. Then you put the cats back on and give her another listen; now it would seem quiet in comparison

Now THATS a good idea!

Dynomax sells bullets for 30-40 bucks.

Borla sells some for 150 bucks!!! (but sound better)

I've searched for the post on LS1.COM but can't find it, anyway, I remember seeing pics of one with a 4". He said the 4" was about as big as you could go without hitting.

I've also searched LS1.com but really didn't find anything. I know that Borla is stainless, is Dynomax? I want stainless, are there others? Also will this stop the drone on an A4?

I have the SLP Loudmouth with a bullet in place of the "resonator" It still has a little bit of the "droning" sound but not as bad as a regular Loudmouth. I have never seen a stainless bullet muffler. I have heard a SLP Loudmouth with a borla stainless XR-1 in place of the resonator and it sounded really good, i believe it took away alot of the loud sound.

If you ever get a chance to look at the inside of that "resonator" that is on the loudmouth, you will find absolutely nothing inside of it(no baffles, packing, fiberglass, etc..)its just shaped like a resonator. Cut it open and look!!

To Will, I'm assuming yours for $30 is not stainless, I really want stainless. Thanks for the offer.

To Gary, so did it take away the drone? I have an A4 and it's pretty bad. How much for the Borla, any fit issues, and how much to get it installed?

Thanks

The muffler was a bit expensive, I got it from summit racing. I believe it was around $180. The system sounds awesome. I have been told that it is one of the best sounding exhaust setups by a few people.

There is little clearance between the muffler and driveshaft, when the car is in the air it will slightly touch the driveshaft, but when the car is on the ground, there is about 5-6 inches of clearance. The installer will just need to make sure it is aligned properly.

I was charged $75 for the install, but that included some chrome tips. As you can see from the pics, I got rid of those hideous loudmouth tips.

It sounds good but is the drone gone. As far as your tips, my loud mouth came with stainless ones that look just like yours.

I have been thinking about doing this to my LM. I know that the Buller muffler from dynomax wont change the sound too much and should get rid of some of the drone/resonace. I have also been looking at their ultra flow round muffler. Thing is I dont know if it will fit since it is 6inches wide (3inch inlet/outlet) and I dont want it to touch with anything since I barely was able to get the damn loud mouth to stop touching and banging with my control arm.

Gary: How wide is that borla bullet muffler?

The stainless tips that come with the kit look nothing like mine.... those are the ones I had originally. And yes the drone is still there...slightly, no where near the level it was without.

Yes it is definitely louder than stock manifolds running through cats.

Hmm if thats the case and yours barely fit then the 6inch dynomax wont fit.

i was worried about it being too loud, but it's not. I don't see what all the fuss is about really. several guys have said mine isn't as loud and is lower pitched than other LMs they've heard. dunno. sounds fine to me.
