Default TR224 + heads or TR224 + Nitrous?

I am getting a car that looks to have the TR224 cam. I was thinking about going bigger/better with the cam, but the idea of it being super friendly on the street is growing on me. My question is this - what would be adviseable to put money towards? A nitrous kit or a good set of heads? I am thinking about possibly doing both at some point, but might just do one to save my stock low mileage drivetrain What kind of power can be added in with heads on this cam? Opinions requested!

Heads! hands down. Power all the time. Never have to refill anything! Probably close to 40-45 with a set of TFS 215's.....

nitrous kit hands down. cheaper by far... your car probable makes 380 rwhp with heads maybe 420 or 430. with a 150 shot youll be over 500. now tell me what sounds better.

380 rwhp traps - 113
430 rwhp traps - 116 or 117
520 rwhp traps - 125 plus
just estimates^

it all depends on what you want

i say get a nitrous kit and be done with it

Check out my sig. I would just do heads if your not planing on track racing. The nitrous gets pointless on the street.

What are you going to do with the car? I would go a little bigger with the cam if were you. I had a 224 with a set of patriots and it was too mild. The newer heads might do alot better but I was not satisfied with the performance of my setup.

umm you really have no idea what you are talking about do you?!? have you even done research on a 224 with heads?!? that cam makes 380 by itself on a weaker car. i believe that there are people in the 10's with this cam and heads, hell there are people in the 10's with smaller cams than this and heads. dont say what you dont know my friend

and i am going with the heads and cam setup! nitrous takes it toll on an engine, heads and cam will not. dont have to worry one you get it tuned or anything. and like what was said up above, you dont have to worry about filling up the bottle all the damn time

Go with the heads! You dont want the nitrous to be your main source of power. Nitrous is a cool finishing touch on top of an H/C setup IMO.(or at least intill I blow my **** up)
You wont regrett going with heads.

talk about 2 extremes. Heads are the worse bang for the buck and nitrous is the best. Lets keep everything apples to apples and compare heads with a 50hp shot of nitrous, since heads are worth only 50rwhp.

It all depends on how much power you want to make. A 100 shot on top of a TR224 cam will rape a H/C TR224 car all day long until the bottle runs out. I had a great vid of a TR224 cam only vs a H/C TR224 and the H/C car pulled it by 2 cars from 60-135mph.

How about:

Bolt-ons 354rwhp-113mph
Heads/cam 446rwhp-122mph

Then if THAT'S not enough, spray it

you guys got it all wrong. You cam it and spray it until it breaks. Then build up a 402-408

If that was directed towards me then, let me say that I was stating my experience. Your experience might be totally different. You will find that it is not an easy task to run 10's with a stick car. You will need a rear, clutch and probably modified hydraulics, most definitely slicks, and you will still most likely have to take some weight out of your car. There are cars on here that make good hp, but there are many more that are mediocre at best. Good luck.

Go back and read post #9. He is quoting whiteLS1. So I would think he is directing his comment towards him

head for sure all the power all the time,if your out of spray then your out or if it's off it's off. Spray is a great don't get me wrong but If i had the choice between heads or spray it would be the heads.

I can see the logic with that post!
If and when the stock #7 piston or ringland goes I would have less new parts to replace or buy for the new motor.

I woudl say heasd and cam, because when you do nitrous.. your looking at 40-50$ a bottle... and Ive had nitrous before, and its a pain to have to arm and fire and then worry about bottle pressure and etc...

GO with heads and cam!
