Default 226 - .554 - 114 ... how is this cam ?

Hi all ,

I just got 2 cams from my friend ....

1- Lunati Cam ( 226 - .554 - 114 )

2- TR Cam ( 224 - .561 - 112 )

Which cam you think that will give better power ??

I am going to install the Lunati cam first and test it on the car inshalla

Any one know about this cam ?? I know that TR cam will not need a pcm work , but this lunati cam has 226 duration @.050 ..... do you think that it will need some pcm work ??

to remind you guys , I have posted heads with 2.08 1.6

Thank you in advance

Abdulla, we do both cams on a regular basis and you would not see much difference between the two cams.

Abdullah, the 226 should make the most power. Since you have bigger than normal valves. If you run the motor up around 7200 you should see the advantages to this LARGE cam and coupled with your LARGE valves... up top in the RPM's, this cam/head combo "should" make the most power.

But that is a LOT of RPM.
Later, once you upgrade to the stroker/bored motor, this cam will probably not the be the best choice for you... but it will make a good compromise in the mean time. 346 or 382 it will be a powerful cam. If in the 346 scenario you rev it high enough.

Both are too big in my opinion for a street A4. But for a M6? Like you? the 224 should be ok. And is what I recommend. The 226 will want more revs to make it kick ***.. but as long as you have no aversion to it... IT should make the most HP.

Remember... rev's will make that cam and your BIG valves run like you want them to.

P.S., keep sending me those E-mails. Where do you find that stuff?

Thank you John for this great information in your replay ..... unfotunetly I will be able to shift at 6600 only , because I just have HPP3 and this is the most RPM I could shift at woth HPP3 ..... I hope it will be great Inshalla ..... ofcourse when I go to larger C.I. inshalla I will go for a damn large cam

Abdulla,

I too agree with everything John said. You are really going to want to keep that LS1 under your 6600 RPM because if the bottom end is stock, anything higher will start to put some serious stress on it and you may have a premature bearing problem or some other realted problem.

I have an A4 and am going with something in the 220/220 .561 area for it but am going to keep max RPM at 6500 just to maintain some longevity in the bottom end. However, if you plan on doing a total engine rebuild in the near future then winding your car up to 7000 RPM or a bit higher may not be of too much concern to you. I just know what a pain in the *** it is to have an "unexpected" or "unplanned" engine/car failure without a backup vehicle to drive to work - it sucks big time !

Good Luck my friend,

Mitch R.

If you are going to shift at 6500, I would use the TR cam.

Abdulla, like John said, that 226 cam will rock the house in the WAAY UPPER rpm's. But, do you really wanna spin the motor that high?? I am not sure how long you are wanting your stock bottom end to last, but I would recommend the 224 cam for a more practical power range for you. Spinning the motor to 7K+ is definately asking for a short lived bottom end IMO.

I wonder how much it costs to ship a motor out there??!?!

Good luck buddy,

Josh

Another vote for the TR cam for your current setup between those 2 cams. I think you will be happier with it for now. Are your valve springs holding up okay? I wouldn't go any bigger until you up the engine displacement and do the new oil pump, etc...

Hope things are going well for you over there.
