Default Pulley cause high RPM miss???

Ok I installed a pulley on my car a few days ago along with some new plugs. Afterwards I noticed at high rpm's (above 5k) the car would have a small miss.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem before? The pulley came off of my friends 99 SS camaro and he didnt have any problems like this with it.

If this miss is caused from the pulley then I would like to know exactly how the pulley causes the miss and if there is a fix for it.

If the pulley is out of "balance", it can cause false knock in the upper RPMs. Some of the early SLP pullies did this. Another thing to look into is your spark plug wires. Make sure all are properly seated on the coils and plugs. If you can, autotap your car. This will give you a much better idea of what is going on.

I had some NGK TR6's and gapped them at .046 and then talked to some people and they told me they should be gapped at .039 so I gapped them to .039. I was having a miss at high rpms with them gapped both ways.

My guess would be the pulley. What pulley are you using?

I checked the pulley and it is perfectly straight when the car is running. we used an impact to put it on but I dont think they torqued it down to 240 ft/lbs.

could this have caused the crank position sensor to freak out or anything which would make the computer think the car has a miss but really only be pulling timing?

I am getting about 4 degrees of KR at WOT in 3rd and 4th gear, and this is when the missfires show up as well. it also feels/sounds like the shifter is vibrating some when under load at WOT in these gears.

any ideas?

Are the misfires occuring on one particular cylinder or a pair of cylinders, or are they randomly dispersed?

the missfires are showing up on 8 the worst but they show up on 1 and 3 sometimes too.

So far I have had TR6's, Bosch plugs and TR55's in the car. and the problem has been there with all 3 sets of plugs I have put in the car.

I would put that stock pulley on for a day and see what happens.

easy swap and maybe the root of the problem. and/or you can check the resistance of the wires

an easy check is to swap coil packs from one side to another and see if it moves. Coil packs are a really frequent cause of upper RPM misses, and the swap around is quick and easy.

I have swapped the #8 coil to the #2 position but the miss stayed on 8 so I kind of ruled out the possibilites of it being a coil

hello, I don't understand why everyone changes plugs . 90% of the people have a miss after taking out the stock ones. What are you gaining except new problems? Joe...

Back in 99 there was a stike and G.M could not get the OEM plugs so they went with the Denso ( made in japan). I see them on '99 C5s also.

I would have the CPS forced into a relearn via a tech 2 command, but would also question the pully install.
