Hypertech tuning
the weather gets warmer though. If you gas is the new improved, reformulated stuff they make us run on in Texas the pinging won't go away.Hypertech is not kidding when they say it must be 93 octane or better. The only problem is the new gas is more volatile. As in it has a lower flasher so you ping more.Just take advantage of all the other good features the HPP3 gives you and leave the high perf tuning off.
What other mods do you have. My 2001 SS pings with ANY induction mods. I think that the programming on the 2001's is already highly optimized and runs quite lean. Once I added a Lid and filter I had pinging. I had to add a MAFT and up my WOT fuel to +14 % - which is the max and it still pings on occassion. A free flowing exhaust and lower TStat on my car might stop the pinging - I'll know that this spring.
I would say that for your 2001 SS it is noprmal and you should run without the Power Programming.
Good Luck,
Mitch

Why would they "claim" prolonged life of the transmission? ANYBODY???? Agree, Disagree, What???
Where do you find the vertical PCV mod??

Look over at tech-ls1.com. I'm pretty sure that's where I found it. Its very detailed, including part numbers.
That is one of the main functions of the Power Programmer, to bump up the firmness of the A4's!! Hypertech claims that there is less stress on the tranny Warlock, please elaborate if you will. Hell, that is one of the main reasons for purchasing one of these units is to change (upgrade) the shift points, rev limiters, etc.....

Raising the shift points is helpful too, but again don't go too high, could hurt the trans (and hit the rev limiter) and also slow you down. I ran better without the power tuning as well even with the 160'.

Hmmm, from what I've seen... your car is the exception. I've ran HPP tuning with all the bolt-on's in 95º weather with no pinging. In fact there was no KR on the autotap.
REC I recommend running two tanks of "good" gas through the car and trying the tunning again. May have some bad gas...

An increased shift firmness setting means you are increasing transmission line pressure. Increasing line pressure causes the transmission clutches to lock up quicker, thereby slipping less. Less slip should equal less wear of the clutches.
I don't know what the best firmness setting to run is but 50% feels pretty good and I really don't think 75% would hurt it. I'm not sure about 100%...never tried that one. I know that the Powerloader runs high firmness settings (and eliminates torque management during shifts) and several members on some of the other forums I hang out on use the Hypertech. I've never heard of a transmission failure attributable to too firm of a shift using a Hypertech (or Powerloader, for that matter).
