Default Headers....SLP's VS. FLP's opinions wanted...

Hey guys, what are your opinions on these headers as far as power goes. I've heard about the fit and finish of both, just curious about power. Are they pretty equal. Any info appreciated.

Thanks, Albert

IMO, the SLP's have a better fit and finish. Welds are excellent, and stainless is nice. FLP's are easier to install, and definately the one for lowered cars. The floorbanging continues, however, despite claims of a fix (long thread in the last couple of days on LS1.com on this). Significant complaints in that thread on quality.

Power gains between these two have been similar, from what I've seen.

My vote would go the SLP's

I have SLP Longtubes and I love them! The sound is amazing and the fit and finish is perfect. Also they are the only all stainless steel header on the market. That way it won't rust and will contiue to look good.

Another nice thing about the SLPs is that they have a Y pipe built into the header that allows you to swap out the cats for race pipes with only a few bolts. That is nice as well.

The SLPs do hang down low and I have scraped mine a few times on large speed bumps. But I am very happy with them none the less.

My vote is for SLP.

I like the power gained with the FLP's. Just wish they were stainless.

I like the looks of both but the price is ridiculous, let's see what happens to the prices once the hookers get out.

I have the SLP LT. Power gains are significant. No problems since install 1 year ago. Agree that 'super' lowered cars will have problems over bumps, but careful driving and a set of adjustable coil-overs solved that problem.

The price of SLP LT are usually very reasonable when purchased on GP. FLP are not willing to do GP's.

My vote is for SLP's.

That's cool that a sponsor is coming here asking our opinion about a product they make. That says a lot about SLP. I am selling my Mac headers to a guy in town tomorrow. I was considering SLP's, they are a beautiful piece. I was even asking around trying to find someone with them in stock. But the fact is that they, and all other longtube headers, are just too expensive. I understand you have to make a profit, LS1 f-bods have only been around 5 years, ect. All I care about now is that Holley is coming out with a beautiful set of longtubes, and is selling them for the $$ that all longtubes should be selling for. And all the prices will come down or business will stop. So, I'll wait on them.

FLP's are tight to the floors and good chance they will bang. You can fix this easily with a little time to clearence them. The power is more top end and give a nice torque increase.
SLP's are low to the ground and there is nothing you can do about it.They are harder to install and problems with wires resting against the headers. They do give more torque down low than the SLP's.
I decided to go with FLP's because they hug the floorboards, cats switch out easily, and they give more topend which is what I wanted. The finish and build quality looks very good on my set.
The new Hookers don't look like such a deal.By the time you coat them and do cats and Y pipe the price is about the same.

I researched that, and disagree. The coated version looks sweet, thus, no coating needed (uncoated sales for 3**!). I don't need cats, so that's a non issue for me. If I did I would use the stock cats, which flow good enough. I can have a y-pipe made for less than $100 at my local speed shop. So I, if I wished, could have coated Hooker LT headers and a y-pipe w/ cats for less than $800 total. I could have the same setup with the uncoated version for less than $600. Another thought is to get the uncoated Hookers and have them Jet Hot coated for a couple hundred extra. I will wait on the Hookers even though they are pissing me off.

I have FLP's and I have friends with SLP's...

The FLP's make good power all depending on whats done to your car...if you have a cam or heads you will defiently see a big gain...I saw about 20rwhp out of them with a stock motor...

At a dyno day a friend of mine gained only 8rwhp from a LID & SLP's...his was slighty rich but even if he leaned it out a little he might see another 5-10hp

Both are good products..

One thing to remember too is that SLP's hang a lot lower than FLP's do and are harder to install...if you have a lowered car I suggest you go with the FLP's...

But overall my vote goes with FLP

If your implying that Straight Line Performance is SLP, or that Straight Line Performance makes the SLP header, you're wrong.

It's still squared away of them to come on here to ask about something they put their name on. Who makes them?

Bravo, Straight Line Performance and SLP are 2 different companies!!! SLP (formerly it stood for Street Legal Performance; now they just go by SLP Performance Parts) makes the headers. They are the same company that GM uses to make SS and WS6 conversions.

Straight Line Performance is an aftermarket supplier like most of our other sponsors.

Check out the banner ads. They each have their own.
