What do you think of this exhaust idea?

I have been thinking about how to reduce weight in the exhaust without deafening myself with turndowns under the axles.
What do you think of the following?
MAC headers with Ypipe and 2.5 bullets in the Y.
Cut off the Y portion of the Ypipe.
Extend dual 2.5 inch tubing underneath the car
Use 2 90 degree mandrel bent 2.5 inch pieces of tubing and exit the exhaust right in front of the rear tires.
If necessary for ground clearance use oval 2.5 inch tubing with chromed tips.
What do you think? That should quiet the exhaust a lot underneath the car and get rid of the droning etc. I am not currently planning on a Hpipe or an X pipe at this time. (I am probably going to lose a little low end but not too much where the tubing is only 2.5 inch.) What do you think? I dont care if it is loud to cars next to me as long as it isnt too loud in the car haha!
Thanks,
Chris

Chris this is IMO the best way to go...
Macs w/Modded ORY to a cutout (Only opened for racing) then 3in over the axle to (1) 3in Dynomax Bullet Race Magnum and (1) 3in tail pipe exiting on the driver side
Yes its alittle loud but its as hell and flows EXCELLENT...
This is how my car is setup now.
Once I go to the Dynatechs or Hookers I'll have a 3in ORY added to the mix.Other than that it'll remain the same.

Seen/Heard it with an LT1 car. Was loud, but not crazy stupid loud. But what it did that sucked was removed all semblance of ground clearance. For some reason the things you have to go under after the 90 deg. made it a huge mess. Worked well for racing only though.

Strange,
I looked under the car last night and didnt see any visible obstructions. My car is a formula so I dont have to worry about the lower body mouldings etc. Also my two bullet 2.5 inch mufflers are tucked up nicely out of the way in the front part of the Ypipe. I can also use oval tubing too if it proves to be a clearance issue. I am also not afraid to use a BFG for extra clearance either
I just want to get rid of the resonance under the car, the car is pretty much street/strip but I am not concerned so much with the noise issue. If this works well I am going to do it with the cat Ypipe I have too.
thanks again,
Chris

That is true but I think I can design it to be far enough out of the way of the tires. The Saleens and Vipers had this setup without issue so I think I will be ok.

I just installed MAC headers and y-pipe. I welded two bullets in the y-pipe and screwed them up (bullets hit the floor pans). Right know i'm running 10" off the headers w/ bullets with turndowns right under the front seats until I get another y-pipe in. It is VERY LOUD, so loud it shakes my car. It's almost as loud as open headers. On a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being open headers I give my current setup a 8.5. Just make sure you have enough clearance space and not to make a $220 mistake like me!

yep
Mine is running without a catback at all now just the Ypipe with 2.5 inch bullets and it is damn loud under the car. Thing is though if it were redirecting the sound out from under the car to the sides it would be much quieter in the passenger area but loud on either side. (Which is fine by me
The resonation with the exhaust dumping under the car is bad news.

Chris,
The bullets do very little in quieting down the exhaust. If you really want to make an impact on noise reduction while still flowing like a ****, you may want to consider the small Borla XR-1 mufflers instead of the bullets. They're low profile and just slightly bigger than cats. They would sound a lot better than bullets. Of course they cost over $100 each vs. $39 each for the bullets. In this case, you get what you pay for.

You could also try the race magnum round mufflers, they are alittle larger then the bullets and quiet it down more. I am going to run these when I get around to it.

thats exactly what i have copy cat
btw it looks good (attention getter also) but i use the stock z28 tips in front of the tires. its a little loud but that may have a little something to do w/ the cam and no programming. but all in all i like it

The only issue is safety when you exit the exhaust right in front of the wheels. If for some reason, you grenade your engine, you stand the possibility of dumping oil right in front of your tires. Needless to say, that would be a very bad thing from a handling standpoint, especially given the concrete walls lining your pathway.
