242/248 .608/.612 110 LSA...please comment
Found a deal on an LS1 with an LS6 intake (of course, supporting valve train mods), P&P LS1 heads, LTs, and I'll probably get a larger TB, and the following spec cam : 242/248 .608/.612 110 LSA
Anyone running this or a similar cam? What kinda of performance/drivability can I expect? A T56 and 4.10s will be behind it. What kinda of power might I expect with a good tune?

that is a monster cam for a 346,heck,i'm only going to run a 244/248 in my 408.if your pistons aren't already flycut they will probably need to be.i would personally go with something smaller like an ms3 or so.
btw=where are you at in ne tennessee?

Yea, too big is what I was thinking, too. I can get a 242/242 .581/.581 with the engine for an extra $250. The guy with the engine says it runs already. (He's a board sponsor at Z28.com, or I would call BS right off)

That cam is the TRex from Thunder Racing. It's a monster for sure. It shouldn't have flycut pistons as long as the heads don't have larger valves or have been milled. I have no personal experience with the cam, but I have head mixed reviews. Some people love it and would go no other way, while others think it's too much for a daily driver.

As far as I know, the heads have stock vavles and have no milling. Not sure what kind of porting was done to them, though.
I know that I wouldn't want to run an auto and try to drive it on the street. Would 4.10s be a good idea with this cam?

You could run stock gears but you'll wanna be above 3K rpm's through town for any power.
I run stock gears but my MS4 has a lot more down low than the Rex has; plus I've tuned the chit out of it

is your ride mostly a street car or track car? you mentioned drivability, so Im going to guess mostly a street car. have you looked into something like a PatrickG grind? Guys on here are making 400 RWHP+ on a 228/232 grind with very good street manners, take a gander in the dyno section.

Ok. Looking at this and ThunderRacing, I think I'll buy the smaller cam that he is offering with the engine. It's a 224/224 .581/.581 I have a feeling that would be more streetable. For a daily, would you guys run that with 4.10s?
Yea, mine's mainly a street car....my only car. So, I have to have drivability.

I drove my car 80+ miles a day through a lot of traffic and I had no problems... Infact I wish I had gone a little bigger still. a 224 just dosnt seem big enough for my liking. you almost forget its there. Sizes akin to the famous / infamous f13 cam (230/232) were tremendously popular the last few years. A lot of first time cammers were very happy with it once you got it tuned well.

who says the ms4 has more down low than the T-rex? i have a trex and i had the ms4...they are both great cams that perform very similar.

The TR 224 is a great street cam, and should not require the 4.10 gears. I'm assuming you are swapping this engine and M6 into your 91 RS. What ratio do you already have?
LS6 manifold, P&P heads, LT's and the TR 224 should get you to 400 rwhp. With a good tune, it should also give near stock street manors.

I'll be moving from a 170hp/255tq (stock crank numbers) L03, so ANY cam upgrade will be a huge step for me. I just want to be able to drive the car without any funky behavior. I think that the TRex cam would be a little to large for me right now according to what I've read.
Yea, I'll be swapping the LS1/T56 into the RS. It has 3.23s now. I want to get AT LEAST 3.42s. The TR 224 seems more to my liking for the time being.
Will at least the springs on the heads be ok? He said they are Comp 921s. I read on the cam guide page, and they are good for up to .650 lift.

I'd be interested in a dyno of that particular comparison . . . which would never happen since people want WOT dyno-runs
