Default Is there a big gain from 2.5" y-pipe to 3" y-pipe on a cammed car ?

Right now I have MAC headers on my car with the MAC 2.5" y-pipe. I am changing my exhaust setup to a 3.5" all the way back. My question was is there a performance gain with going to a 3" y-pipe into a Flowmaster collector (2)3" in/(1)3.5" out ? Thanks.

I had MAC headers on my MTI stage II set up with 3" collector flanges, 2.5" y-pipe with CarSound 2.5" in/out cats on it. I had a shop custom build a 3" y-pipe for it using 3" in/out CarSound cats and I got exactly 6rwhp(426rwhp to 432rwhp) and 6rwtq(392rwtq to 398rwtq). I was planning to step up to a 422ci motor soon after that, so that is why I had it built. It may be worth it, but you loose more precious ground clearance......

6rwhp/6rwtq is not bad, I was hoping for something like 10-15rwhp. I guess I was being a bit too optimistic. Is your car lowered by any chance ? If so, how bad is the ground clearance say over speed bumps ?

Anyone else have info on power gains from changing to a bigger y-pipe ? Thanks.

My car was lowered, running GW coil overs up front, and I did have clearance problems. I would have still lost some clearance with just the 3" pipe, as it is much larger than that squashed stock piece, but if the car was at stock ride height I don't think it would be bad.

I have the before and after dyno sheets scanned. I don't have web space set up to host them, but I can e-mail it.

I currently have not had clearance problems with the Eibach lowering springs and the MAC 2.5" y-pipe. But I may be pushing my luck with the 3" <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

I would love to see the dyno graphs, could you please email it to sgharibi@seebeyond.com ? Thanks.

I decided to go with the 3" Y as well. Just called Mark (the guy who's going to be fixing my Y) and ordered the parts.
