Dealer attempts to find ticking noise, but..
As all other SS owners have posted, my car too has that annoying ticking sound. I finally had it with the car and I took it in for a check up. The SV light was previously flashing but I don't think it was related. I asked that they check it out as well. To make a long story short, I took the car in at 830am, never got a call re: the results 'til I called back at 3pm, at which time I was told 'it's ready'--cool. (so far)
On arrival, I learned there were no codes stored to memory and that the tech could not duplicate the problem. I was told the ticking was due to the belt tensioner(a special order item)which I doubt, but ok, whatever. It didn't turn out to be anything internal--so they say.
The part that just sent me high and to the right was after I got into my car to leave the dealer. I noticed that the car had an extra 60 miles on it!! Now I don't know what the hell to think but I was pissed beyond words. After I spoke w/a service mgr, all he could say is that the tech that serviced the car needed to drive it in order to duplicate the problem and then fix it. Since no problem was found, then the quality control rep needed to drive it to confirm it. 'Yep, no problem here'.(after 30 miles a piece!!)
The best part was when I looked at the service order. It showed the correct mileage when received but the 'out' mileage was only noted as only having 6 extra miles! Anyway, this whole thing is an integrity issue for me. (scenario: check for codes. none. drive it a few miles. cannot duplicate. so called quality control, drive it a few more miles. cannot duplicate. DONE!) At the most I could have accepted..oh, 20-25 miles. NOT 60!!
THANK YOU WESELOH CHEVROLET FOR LOSING MY TRUST AND BUSINESS AS A CUSTOMER!

Sorry you had a bad dealer experience, i can reccomend you go to DELLILLO CHEVROLET in Huntington Beach on Beach Blvd. They might be worth a try in the future. Good luck.

In my opinion, ALL dealers suck! But, they may be right about the belt tensioner. I have wondered about that with the ticking on my 00SS. If you replace it, let us know if that fixes it.

Can't help with the tick, I have a truck and all it does is tick (the infamous Vortec tick). As far as the mileage thing goes, someone posted a while back about leaving a post-it on the dash with the mileage you brought it in on. Mine is in right now with that post-it on the dash and I pulled all the fuses to the stereo(heard of problems there before to). Send them a bill for gas

Re: Dealer attempts to find ticking noise, but..
It's the design of the LS1. There is enough clearance built in that it has a ticking noise. Most predominant when cold.
I dealt with the issue soon after I picked up my new car, back in '99.
I parked it out in front of the dealership overnight, then went in the next morning and asked to see the service manager and shop foreman. We went out and started the car and I asked him to explain all the noise that I (we) heard. That was 40K miles and many track sessions ago.
Hopefully you don't have the oil consumption problem some folks have. And that GM is aware of.

Sorry to hear you didnt like the service you received.I will only go to Weseloh for service, every time I have been there I have been treated well.I had a cat converter go out on my old SS and they replaced it even though I had exhaust mods done to my car and didnt even bother to cap my cutout,Tranny went out again no complaints about mods the trans had a major overhaul done in one day and worked perfect.Sometimes it is nec. to drive a car for extended periods of time to verify a complaint I know I had to do it when I worked at a Chevy dealer.Service techs get paid flatrate they dont have time to dick around joyriding a car if they do they aren't making much money.

Hi Fellas, I to have a ticking noise that I have yet to figure out what it is.. I kow exactly which end of the car it is comming from which is the rear. When I am in 1st or 2nd going relatively slow and depress the clutch in, I hear a ticking noise that coincides with how slow or fast you are going.. If I let the car coast the ticking noise intervals slow down as the car slows down.. I am think drive shaft but am not sure.. Any ideas?
Thanks, Sawacs
