Default Has anyone actually installed 6.0L heads on 3.9" bore LS1???

Would someone please let me know what it takes?

Here are the issues?
6.0L head chamber diameter is slightly bigger than 3.9 inch bore. Will this affect squish and make the engine more prone to detonation?

Head gasket? Use stock gasket or 6.0L truck gasket?

What is the max C/R you can get by just milling the 6.0L heads (assuming you are using 5.7L and stock pistons).

Is it worth using ported 6.0L heads vs. ported 5.7L heads? (I am started to wonder)

I don't think so. I've seen a few decent numbers with the truck heads but they are on par with LS1 head numbers. I'd only use truck heads if I was building a blower setup and wanted to lower the CR down while still using flat top pistons.

Agree. If there's anything there it's for the Supercharged or Turbo setups.

All depends on how much chamber work one wants to do....it is an aluminum head, and the chamber can be altered.

Removed, but not added back in, eh?
I'm not a head porting expert tho.

Speed Demon,

Check out this thread, someone made 420rwhp with 6.0 heads and the LS1 intake.

I am doing a set right now, welding the chambers near the exhaust valve, adding a quench pad near the spark plug. The stock sized chamber on these heads run about 72-73 cc, which will be reduced to about 64 cc after welding and milling .020 -.030". I predict excellent mid lift and high lift flow (~300-305 cfm) with these heads with minimal port work due to the LS6 design runner and improved short side radius. The only drawback would be the port volume at 210 cc vs 200 cc for the LS1, which will reduce port velocity. The finished volume after port work came in at 215 cc.

I don't recommend welding the heads unless you have alot of time on your hands to reshape the combustion chamber, or have a 5 axis cnc mill! I will post pics and flow numbers after the heads are complete.

Maybe a better Q would be 'Who has used these heads without welding the CC?' or who has used the mismatched bore & what gasket? Would have to be the 4.010" gasket..
