Guys Who Know A Little About Cars Help Me Out Please!!!!
I have a 99 TA with 70k on it. It started idling funny lately. the idle drops to around 500 and becomes real inconsistent. The car starts to shake as if it wants to die. When I first accelerate like while leaving a stoplight, it hesitates just for a second, and then its fine once it gets going. Anybody have any ideas what this may be?

Hmmmm, interesting.....
I've noticed that as my car crept closer and past 70,000 miles, it started doing the exact same thing..Slight hesitation and all.
This is intruguing, any idea guys??
Thanks in Advance,
Taco

Thanks alot for the input TTtop, like you said i guess it can't hurt to check that out. It actually started happening a few hundred miles ago. I figured someone on here might have had the same experiences. Still open for input from some of you other guys!
Thanks

Check the MAF a freind of mine had a car with nitrous and it backfired and blew the wires or sensors out and he claimed it made the idle fluctuate ... I'm not sure if you had a problem with nitrous (if you had it) and damaged it or might have just had a problem .... you can check it out anyway ..... I dont even know if the MAF has anything to do with the idle

When was the last time you did a full tune up?
Just guessing but it could be a bad plug wire, Don't know if a fuel filter would do that exact thing but it could give the hesitation off the line, dirty plugs. Just basics might do it..

Clean throttle body with some throttle body cleaner. Be suprized what that will fix. I use a old toothbrush to srub it. Clean MAF with electronics cleaner. Just srpay it and drip dry. Cheap fixes. Also, changed fuel filter lately? Hope this helps.

My 99TA had started to surge and stall at idle recently, and when I had an LS6 intake installed at MTI, I asked Jayson about it. My car has 31K miles on it, BTW.
He recommended taking carburetor cleaner and cleaning the back of the Throttle Body of the oil buildup.
Guess what! It worked, my idle is now back to a smooth 850 rpm, no more up and down until it warms up. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
I don't know if this will help your situation, I'm just throwing it out there for you.
Good Luck!

Did this problem just start occurring, or has it been doing this for a while? If it is recent, then something else may be working against you here.
If it's been going on for a while now, I'd at least check the back of the TB for buildup and clean it anyway. It can't hurt anything, and it only cost me $1.39 for the carb cleaner at O'Reilly's.
I have over 150 track passes on the car, so the back of the TB was covered with oil buildup. Even if you don't race, but you punch it on the street your going to get oil through the pcv valve sludging up the TB.
Keep checking the thread, maybe someone else will chime in for you with other suggestions!

Like said above clean the TB. Some other areas to check at 70k would be the fuel filter, o2 sensor, plugs, wires....Just general maintenence areas. My guess would be the o2 sensor.
