Couple of questions....

What gear is in the car?

A4 or M6 trans?

What headers (if any)

Here is a list of cams I have ran in the past:

221/221 114LSA B1 cam
226/234 112LSA comp cam
230/230 112LSA comp cam
236/242 110LSA cam (in my 385)

Of all the cams the B1 was the best for daily driving. I ran 3.73 gears and 4.10 gears. If you aren't running a 4.10 gear (ie: stock gear) I'd run something like the B1, TR220 or TR224.

B1 had great power everywhere, 230/230 made an additional 12-14RWHP above 3500rpm but lost a little below. Driveability was worse with the 230 though.

I ran 11.30s-11.50s with the B1 and 11.10s to 11.30's with the 230/230.
mph ranges from 121-123mph. (no cats)

When I had the 385 I trapped 127-128mph but couldnt hook the extra torque and only managed 11.0s. (through cats)

I hope this helps. I am a big fan of the smaller cams for daily drivers...

226/226 585/585 on a 112 here with Patriot Gold double valve springs. Drives great around town and still get's about 260 miles to a tank. Been to SC, Nashville, Chattanooga and all over Knoxville without a bit of a problem. This cam loves the interstate though, lot's of fun!

I asked this in another cam thread. So how fast are the guys recommending the big cams running in the 1/4? I only saw 2 guys post their numbers in this whole thread and both ran smallish cams. That kinda tells ya something, doesn't it?

I run a baby cam and with the exception of some valvetrain noise, you can't tell there's a cam in there. With an A4 guys have run 11.2s and 11.3s with the MTI Stealth cams, Colonel and Caveman. With my M6 from a roll I'm side by side with an 04 Viper with K&Ns that has run 11.4 at 123 in the 1/4. He put 1/2 a car on me by 140 and that guy can drive. My car hasn't been professionally tuned yet and has every single thing in it including sway bars and jack/spare.

Big cams FTN - for the noise.

I put about 30,000 miles on my z06 this year with a Futral f14 cam. The tuning makes the car. I had no troubles with it.

F13 was a great daily driver cam. If I had to do it over with what is available I'd go with the high lift F14.

Traffic is a bitch to deal with with a big cam. In an m6 anyway

What Traffic in Oahu, never been in any?

JK it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to bad with my cam, its a M6. Just hate to sit still or go down the freeway at 5mph for 20miles.

My tuner is the best on the west coast.(his clientel comes from as far away as LA and he is based in Washington) He tunes all the big boys. Callaways, twin turbo Vipers, the new z06's. All of the heavy hitters go to him and his mustang dyno because he is regarded as the best and his work is second to none.
He tuned for driveability and not peak hp. Its the cam. Its too big to putt down the road at 15 mph at 1200 rpms. The 224 will do that though.

I have no trouble driving my car. It rips the pavement in two and has tremendous throttle response. Just dont expect it to want to behave below 1800 rpms. It doesnt like it. DO I have any regrets? NONE! This thing is an animal. But if I was in traffic all day I would not have gone this big. Maybe if I had an auto and a stall I might think differently.

I agree, you cant make a t-rex or tsp giant cam idle like a stocker, but if you have a real good tuner a fairly large cam, like my 232/238 .600/.640 112 lsa, can be tuned to idle very well. By all means mine is very noticable and lopes hard, but idle quality is awesome. Never stalled on me and the only bucking/surging id ever experience was if I started my car up and didnt let it idle for 20 seconds and warm up (say in a mall parking lot) and rolled around at 1200 rpms, then it would buck a little, other than that no bucking/surging period. Ive seen guys with 228/228 cams, with tuners who werent as good as Don at Dez Racing, have idle quality problems and those were smaller cams so a good tuner does matter but I agree once you start getting into the really big cams it doesnt matter how good a tuner is it is going to be far from stock idle quality/driveability.
