Default FLP Collector Vs. Flowmaster...

First, Don't get me wrong, I love my FLP headers. But after looking at the collector the first time I had to wonder what they were thinking . So I ordered a Flowmaster collector from summit racing for $30. After a long time of procrastinating, I finally took care if it.

and here is what came out...

The FLP unit is alot prettier, but I have to think that the FM unit is better for performance.

Well, I haven't driven it yet! I am in lay up for a couple of days, getting my racing wheels setup... And Figured while the car was down I would take care of this too. I WILL dyno as soon as I can.

Others have stated 5-10 HP diference having done this.

I did do the cutting and welding myself(I am learning). Like I said, its not pretty, but its not gonna fall off either! Any way the part number is FLO-Y250300A. Its $37.50 from summit.

I have had this sitting on my shelf since 9/2000! Man I am a procrastinator!!!

The FLP y-collector actually flows quite well. Jeff at MTI told me that they've had quite a few stage II heads/cam cars dyno 430+ RWHP w/ the FLP collector in place. Looks can be deceiving.

If nothing else, I can say there are no bottle necks in my exhaust. And while surfing around I found that many people had this done...

*FLP longtube headers and y-pipe with removable cats
*Flowmaster 2.5"/3" y-pipe collector
*3" SLP dual/dual catback with cutout

Wonder who's page I grabbed that from?

(BTW nice page TrevorD)

The Flowmaster collector is a work of art. I like to just look at it

Ryan, I noticed you have a Denny's driveshaft. What kind is it, and how much was it total? Does it include the slip yolk and U-joints? Thanks

Good Eye Tony. Its a Dennys Nitrous Ready shaft. I managed to get it on sale from Dennys for $320 plus shipping. It comes with both u-joints and the front yoke. I belive Denny recommends the billet yoke for you manual guys, but I could be wrong. Mine is the standard yoke. The DS is a monster and is guaranteed for life. And the labor is free to replace the u-joints for life also. I say it was one SOLID investment.

Ryan,
sorry for the off-topic, but what brand of DS loop do you have? I wanted to order the BMR unit, but some local guys have not been able to make it work with FLPs...
thanks,
Shane

Shane,
I have an early version of the BMR loop, which is set back a little more than the new ones. It works for me, but it took some tweaking. I think that if I did it over again I might go with the Jegs DS loop for $40. The only down side to the Jegs units is you have to drill the floor, its not plug and play.
