Default Patriot 243 cnc head owners read this please

I am thinking of buying the Patriot 243 heads for my 01 TA 6m .My only concern is how do these heads affect your low to mid power band. The reason I ask is the intake runner is on the larger size (227+-) compared to stock and other street heads.I just dont want to lose all my low end power.I just want to get the opinions of you here that have this heads and how you liked them.the mods that I have planed for my car are,LT headers, street friendly cam,SLP lid , heads and perf. tune.Yes I did talk to Gunnar very nice guy and helpful.Just wanted to hear it from the people that layed down the money for these heads.I don't want to sound like i am complaining about the price cause i am not, the price is more than fair for a cnc alum head complete. But if its not what you want that makes it not such a good deal.
Thanks

i have just recieved my PP 243 heads and have not gotten a chance to put them in yet... i read up on them alot before i ordered them, and based on dyno graphs and from what people have said you will not lose anything down low, you should have some gains.

if i can make a suggestion... i think that you should go ahead and do the supporting mods like a lid and headers. without your basic bolt-ons your heads won't be as good as they could be. IMO exhaust is the most important thing in making a performance engine, get that flowing good and then think about heads. this isn't a once-in-a-lifetime deal that Patriot (and other companies) is having, i doubt that the prices of 243 heads will go back up much.

With bigger runners you almost have to lose some velocity which will affect your bottom end and part-throttle response.

John let me know how it goes.As far as installation of the mods.I plan on doing them all at the same time.I got the headers and lid.I just need to decide on the h/c.As far as keeping low end grunt.do you go by port size or flow numbers.I saw that the dart 205's flow about the same as the 243's. Dart calls there 205 a street head which flows approx.300@.600". So if you go by the flow numbers the 243 should make agood street head.
vader99 I agree with you also.

Runner size will dictate a better street head than flow. From what I have read, for a 346 an AFR 205 should have better lowend/crisper throttle response than a ported ls6 head even though they both end up flowing over 300 cfm @ .600" lift.

Smaller ls2 64cc vs stock dog crap **** 67cc should have better throttle response by it self from the bump in compression , also compare at the low lift cfm of the heads rather than peak .

runner shape and the cross section of the port is more important,to a point, than runner volume..the GMPP LS6 CNC head is about a 250cc....volume alone does not dictate velocity.as long as the cross section is not too big,and has the proper shape, you won't lose velocity.

do a search on this and you'll see what i'm talking about.

cws T/A Thanks for that link.I did not see that one in my search today it was very helpful. So if i go by that, the Patriot 243's would not be the best street head due to the larger intake runners right or wrong?I just don't want a head that is going to kill all my low end power.I want one that will increase my low to mid range power. This car is not driven at full throttle all the time.

as far as ported stock castings go, these are one of the smaller volume runners you can get. If you want stock volume or smaller, you have to go to an aftermarket casting. you'll be spending twice as much so what do you really want in the end? I'm not sure you have any understanding of what you're asking so I'm not really sure how to answer. look at he low/mid lift numbers, it helps give an idea of air velocity.

if you think people bolt on ported LS6 heads and the car falls on it's face until 4000rpm, then you need to do some more reading.

My experience with the 243 Ported Heads and a CheatR cam was I lost about 10 HP and 10 Ft/lbs of Torque under 3600 RPM, 03 Vette, after that it pulls great. I am not a Drag racer so it didn't bother me. I do Road Race DE events so I have the engine revving all the time.

I installed my Patriot 243 heads before the holidays, and I'm loving 'em. Gunnar and his crew are very professional, and turned out a great product, especially for the price. 227cc is relatively small for a ported stock casting. I was very careful about the details such as IVC, quench and DCR. The results are fantastic! Runner size is not the sole factor in low to mid-range performance. If you're sloppy with the details, tiny runners ain't gonna' fix it. But, a slightly larger runner can work fine if the deatils are right. You may wish to refer to my other thread regarding my heads & cam install https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/630305-patriot-243-heads-comp-xer-224-228-111-2-a.html

I have plenty of low end power. Setup: PP stage 2 243s milled about 12 thousands, 45 thousands cometic gasket, TR224 114, borla, pacesetters, TSP catted Y, and LS1 intake.
