Default Deal or No Deal?

What do you guys think of this?

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...-P1625C63.aspx

Sounds like a good start for my lsx swap? Cheapest new long block I've found over the net. (I cant find ANY LS1 type engine where I live) I kinda like the fact that it doesn't come with an intake too. What # can I expect with an engine like this? What cam/intake would you guys recommend? +/- 500hp is goal. This is going in a 3rd gen f car.

Shipping and Customs would add about 1k to the total cost... Im in Quebec, Canada.

Please feel free to comment. Im new to the lsx world, and Im still learning everyday.

for the price and for 500 hp you're going to want to get an after market short or long block. You could get a 370 ci iron block with ported LS6 heads whichever cam you'd like and some nitrous. If your budget is tight then an LS6 intake will do the job. If the 25 hp is worth the 2K then go with a ported fast set up. I'd personally just change the nitrous jets to get that 25 hp back. If this is really an all out set up you could do a carb style intake with inecto bungs welded in, or a one off sheet metal intake (those are really pricey).
I would recommend that you check out all of our sponsors, Wheel 2 Wheel, Texas Speed and Performance, Thunder Racing, Katech, etc. I think there is a Canadian engine builder that sponsors this site. Check out the regional forum. I'll have a look for you, I'm bored.

here you go:
cdnperf.com
they have 347&383 aluminum lsx short blocks, and iron 370 short blocks, that should save on some shipping costs.
Have fun with your swap!

Thanks Arrestme! Nitrous is definately tempting, as Ive seen it in action myself. I guess those shortblocks are made for boost or nos. I red a lot of good stuff on patriot heads, and others saying that AFR are overpriced and not really needed. I guess Ill give them a call and see what they can do for me.

Thanks a ton again!

Call any one of the sponsors here to get your best deal. LME in Texas is great to deal with. Call a couple people to get different options and opinions then go with your bet deal or who ever you feel most comfortable with.

When should I start condering Pratiot Stage III heads? I guess they flow too much for stock bore and stroke? Also, is there real advantages over an ls1 (exept bore/stroke) to consider an ls2?

I'd go ls2 before ls1 if I had the money. Ls2 was more expensive. How many cubes are you going for? That will decide your head needs.

I have no idea on CID yet. All I know is that the car is not gonna be daily driven.. hell, Ive owned the car for 8+ years and put about 25000km on her. I want to have about 500hp to hang with the new Z06s.

NOS is prolly going in too. Like Arrestme said, I think I could do fine with an ls1, probably stroked tho. The 383 looks nice. I guess I could buy the short block from them and find myself nice set of head/cam/intake to go with it.

Is a sponsor or vendor on the web selling the valley cover, front timing cover, fbody oil pan, block mounts etc... I need to get to dress my lsx type engine? or am I just better to shell out 2k and let Canadian Performance take care of it for myself?

You can get the ls2 conversion stuff for $450. OR Texas Speed includes it all with their package. The intake is 700-750 and a TB for it will be 415. The Patriot heads can be had for decent money anytime. How much are you looking to spend total is the question. It can add up in a real hurry if your not careful, making a long block look like a better idea. Then theres ebay for the little things as well. I went with a 347 ls1 and still spent over $7k. But it's about as bullet proof as you can make it to handle 600-800 hp at the wheels.
