Default Steve2000SS "Did you Dyno FIPK today"

Checking to see if you ran that Dyno today on K&N FIPK 2/16/02.

Did you dyno with other changes other than FIPK.

I am waiting for results from you and Phoenix on their "NEW" lid $450.00

If you could post dyno sheet, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was the one that dynoed with Steve2000SS' FIPK today. I will get the sheets scanned and posted but this is what we found today. I have the new 02 OE lid that SLP is putting out now with a Holly Power Shot air filter.

Using OE lid and Power Shot
on cutout 316HP 336Tq

Using FIPK
on cutout 322HP 344Tq

I gain 6HP and 8Tq just adding in a FIPK. Not to bad of an increase. But not the 22HP that has been claimed, or maybe that was over the standard GM lid.

I got the 22 and that was over stock ... not a lid. Well this gives more data, with the FIPK showing a gain over a lid.

Well if you consider that most lids give 8-10HP (seems like anyway) in my case it would have been 14-16HP still not bad. And yes I am currently planning on selling my lid and getting one. A gain is a gain.

Here is the graph. I used the Dynojet review software and combined the 2. Run #14 is the FIPK, Run #11 is the OE lid and Holly Power shot.

FUTURESTRADER RESPONSE:

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm glad to see that you did not lose any TQ.

A gain of 6HP and 8TQ is nice.

My next question? Is the "New OEM SLP Lid" better than say a "Direct Flow Lid" (best current lid on the market)or are they about the same. I'm also wondering if you will pick up more HP (with FIPK) as you are driving at higher speeds vs (standing still dyno). I was planning on going with Direct Flow, Holley Powershot, and FTRA, however, I'm not crazy about FTRA blocking a portion of my radiator in Summer. And, as you know most aftermarket lids have quality problems. I think the K&N FIPK is much better quality & looks better when completed.

If I gain 15HP over my "stock '01 lid", thats $20 per HP, very cheap IMHO. Also, the K&N is carb certified.

Thanks for all your help.

Me, I would say they are probably about the same. I like the Direct Flow lid and had one on my 99Z28. I also had the FTRA on it and as far as I could tell had no overheating problems.

As far as picking up more HP on the road as opposed to the dyno. Could be. I look at the dyno as a tuning tool and not the last word in what a car can do. For example no dyno can show the improvments that a Ram Air system can do because no fan that a dyno shop has can push that much air.

Right now I'm looking real close at the FIPK and will probably go in that direction.

Poltergeist,

Now that I've had time to think, I'm going to order the K&N FIPK Monday. Even if the FIPK and FTRA gain more HP as you drive faster, the FIPK gained more HP & TQ standing still on the dyno. From my understanding the FTRA does not help until you reach higher speeds 60+ mph or more, so the way I'm looking at it, I will gain better HP & TQ for short street races. In addition I will not have to do additional install for FTRA (PITA), no summer radiatior problems, or water intake problems with FTRA.

BTW, who has the FIPK in stock and best price.

Thanks.

Damn! I used to think this kit was a crock, but I am now becoming convinced. I think I may take the plunge and give one a shot. I am guessing they work with an SS hood correct?

You and me both Josh! I'm curious as hell to see if there is any noticeable gain of a lid and K&N. I'd have to modify it for FRA of course.

Steve2000SS doesn't seem to be having any problems with his SS hood. And I was just as skeptical as you before yesterday.

EDIT - Pace has them listed for $279.00.

What all doe the 'kit' consist of? Does it replace the bellows, etc. Great to see the dyno results, but I may have to track test one of these in the next few weeks as the tracks open uo here.

Rob, check w/ me when you're ready.

I already did check with you. LOOK AT YOUR EMAIL!!!!

EDIT - copied below from one of Steve's earlier posts.

and it includes the small K&N filter, air filter, cleaning kit and a Baker type hose to replace the bellows.. PLUS this kit is CARB certified (a good thing when you in CA)..

Rob: the 22rwhp claim was over the STOCK GM airbox.. the SLP "OE" should be considered an aftermarket lid in line with the MTI, Directflow, etc.. If the SLP lid/filter was worth 10 or 12 over stock then this is good for 16/18rwhp over stock.. not bad. And remember you car had no time to learn the mod and adjust the fuel for the extra air

Before I saw this thread I posted on it

Oh, works great with my SS hood.. infact the hood helps direct even more outside air into the filter area.. I know someone running this on a Z28 with no problems either..

I figure this cost me the same as a lid/filter/bellows/etc and gave a better gain.. i would imagine that over 50mph a FTRA might be the same gain or slight increase but this is cheaper than that route without the problems of overheating (in some cases) or water intrusion.. See my other post for theories on closed hood air-flow..
