I know everyone hates cam threads but I am at a loss finding info on a good cam for more low end to midrange power.

The car in question is a 99 WS6 M6 with every bolt-on including an LS6 intake. But runs shorty JBA headers. His 20" wheels and extra weight make for dismal launches and he doesnt race it much or go top speed. He likes it more for short bursts as opposed to reving it to the sky. He has stock heads for now but may upgrade later. Would somthing like a Thunder220 work? I imagine you would keep the duration lower to keep the power band in a lower rpm and and the lift in the .534-.544 range to be easy on the valve train?

He needs to be able to smog it in Cali also.

Thx for any help you can provide in yet another damn cam thread.

Re: Picking a cam for more low-mid range HP.
using desktop dyno 2000 for the data set I created
this graphic comparing several leading cams.
This dataset is calculated not actual take a look.

http://ls1info.com/article.php?sid=63

By this data set they all have the basic shape
but are higher on the graph ( more hp )
Some of them peak at RPM that is past the stock rev limiter..

So if the data is accurate in real world applications then the T1 or Comp222 would work well for HP and TQ? But lean more towards a T1?

MMS 218 is a good midrange street cam, passes CA smog too.

Thx Terry, I was thinking in the 218-220 range.

Haha I'm not sure yet. I have a few more mods to do and I think I can win the NA class if I run in it. Does C2 allow open exhaust? <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Re: Picking a cam for more low-mid range HP.
The comp 212/218 114 would be a very good choice with extra punch down at 2000 rpm and pretty much stock shift points of 6000 - 6200 rpm. A split pattern may be better for this guy because he doesn't have long tubes.

216/220 113 is my next choice, maybe on a 114 LSA if you want extra emissions cushion.

i'd use the comp extreme lobes (.56x) with the comp springs & retainers.

Depending upon your definition of "low end" the 220 cams may not meet your needs, especially if you decide to stay with the more emissions safe 114 LSA.

If you want one of those cheapie-comp cam setups (216/220, 218/224, etc) I know MMS had them on sale a few weeks ago. The sale might still be on?
