Default Are head bolts reusable?

I am taking the heads off for new cometics and i'm wondering if the headbolts can be used again? I got new ones when the heads went on about 4 months ago. Any info is appreciated, thanks guys.

Stock GM head-bolts are TQ to degree, meaning they are actually "stretched" (tightened to a light tq spec and then twisted a certain # of degrees further) and are not re-usable.

Yeah, once you install those factory torque to yield bolts, and they are stretched thats it.

Thats what I was afraid of. Anyone using n2o with the stock head bolts? I will have the 150 shot on soon and i'm not wanting to take my heads right back off. I'm trying to save for a 12 bolt and almost $350 for 2 gaskets and a few bolts is hard to take (Cometic and ARP).

Friend used stock head bolts with 150 shot on a H\C car and never had a problem.

There is a reason that GM and other manufacturers use "torque to yield" bolts, they provide a high strength solution without less stress on the block threads. Compare the cost of a set of GM head bolts with ARPs and decide for yourself how many tear-downs and re-assemblies you will need to do to justify the added cost of the ARPs. There has never been an issue with GM TTY bolt strength, reusability is the only thing you are buying with non-TTY bolts.

I had 11:1 CR and stock head bolts on my old setup. I sprayed 150 for a year without any issues.

What happened after a year, why did you change your setup?

u have NO worries with stock bolts. they are cheap so just get GM bolts. I've seen many guys spraying 150 and over on stock bolts, never heard of one issue because of the bolts.

Yep I got tired of filling the bottle and went with FI.

Dont worry about the bolts, they will be fine. Worry more about the tune and fuel system for N2O.

What about TTY bolts with headgaskets that need retorquing after a heat cycle?

Can you retorque Stock headbolts when say.. running Cometic gaskets?

Ive reused headbolts in a bind when the car was a daily driver and i needed to get to work monday. If at all possible just order a new set. Theyre only 30 bucks. Like the others said, youre only buying usability. The stock bolts handle a good bit, IMO.
