Re: FIPK Dyno results
Now I have A $1,000,000 COULD YOU MAKE A FRA WORK WITH THE FIPK?????? WE MADE IT WORK WITH THE STOCK LID SO WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE TRY IT WITH THE FIPK!!!!!!! IF I DECIDE TO GET THE FIPK OVER THE LID AND FTRA I WILL BE SURE TO AT LEAST TRY IT!!!!

The hood was open, but it was also open for
the lid and filter. All things being equal,
you saw the gains.
FRA or FTRA won't work.the opening would be
BEHIND the new filter, the filter won't pick it up.
It would blow fresh air into the engine compartment, though.
I'm done defending this system.
I'm 100% satisfied with it and I'm not usually
totally satisfied with anything.
Everybody has different opinions, stick to what
makes you happy.
the popular opinion(for people who don't have one)
is that it would suck warmer air.
Example-(pay no attention to the CFM's,it's just
an example.)
would you rather have 750 cfm of warmer air
or 500cfm of cooler air?
Ahhh, who cares, keep your lid and filter.

LMAO!!
Let's see what this does at the track before we judge. How can a dyno test of the two setups be fair? The viability of dyno testing depends on the conditions and changes made.
Terry's remark was meant to show that the comparison does NOT in and of itself prove the car is faster in REAL WORLD CONDITIONS than the lid with FTRA. I personally don't see how it could be....

Re: FIPK Dyno results
How many of you race sitting still?????? Sure it will have some warm air to suck in while sitting, but any system will suck in warmer air sitting still. As soon as you are moving there is plenty of cold air to suck in. It has already been confirmed via autotap that when you sit the temp rises but as soon as you move the temp is the same as the outside temp. I have the system and am very pleased with the performance and the quailty. You people crying and complaining are the ones that DO NOT have the system. You cannot talk from experiance like I and a few others can. I have not heard one single negative complaint from someone that owns it. I think its a ton better then the directflo lid on my wifes car. Do what you want. No one is twisting your arm to buy the k&n system.

Here is an idea for free!
Build a lid around the FIPK, and duct it to the front fasade for nice cold air.
I'm smart!!! Actually I've seen it on the Vetts already!

Just put some ice in your windshield washer container, its right below the air cleaner and will keep under hood temps down

Re: FIPK Dyno results
There was some sort of free air cooling mod where somone put ducts where the front grille is on the camaro, and led the ducts up to the air box, maybe this can also be done with the FIPK?

Re: FIPK Dyno results
So someone tell me why this K&N FIPK is nicer than the Volant that everyone picked apart last year. The Volant looks to be just like the FIPK except it seals to the hood and breathes through the bottom. Kinda like the question asked about the FIPK plus free ram air
I also like the $275 for the Volant vs. the $300+ for the FIPK.

My K&N was $259 just like it is now with the GP. Plus, K&N is a tested and reputable name. Thats why I went with it.

Probably because Tbyrne dynod one and the results indicated 1 or 2 less rwhp than a lid. So the same people that you see now jumping up and down saying that the dyno results on the FIPK mean nothing - spent last summer jumping and down saying that the Volant was crap because the it didn't show anything on the dyno
Also someone did a track test with it and a FTRA. And if I remember correctly the Volant was less than tenth - .03 sticks in my mind - slower than the FTRA. As soon as it was posted - everyone was all over saying see, it sucks. And that was enough for most folks to bury it.
Where as with the FIPK, the initial dyno results were just to overwhelming to keep people from trying it. Even then it's only in the last 6 weeks or so it seems to have reached a threshold of acceptance, with several dynos all showing positive gains over both stock and other AM systems.

Re: FIPK Dyno results
I can totally believe that this FIPK is worth 5-6rwhp over a lid but I in no way think that it will make as much power as both a good lid(Direct-Flo) and a FTRA kit combined, especially the faster you are going(i.e., highway, end of quarter mile). Good #'s though on the dyno.

I see. I don't set a store by dyno numbers, but the track impressions are interesting. I just guess it will come down to what the average gain is for the FIPK.

Re: FIPK Dyno results
I cant believe a FIPK is a good as my BG Ram Air kit along w/a aftermarket Lid.I have a completely closed setup and no hot air to my engine ever.
Once I launch its a straight cold shot right into my totally open nostrils.
Sorry I'm staying w/the BG/Lid combo.

Re: FIPK Dyno results
I think I'm gonna try out the FIPK w/ the FRA mod. I don't see why we'd need the new radiator support. I see that the front of the K&N filter bolts up to the support, but I don't think it's necessary to keep it in place. Hopefully I'll be able to track test it next weekend.
