After squeezing a 24,000 tranny cooler beside the FTRA and having to get a cooling fan switch and watch the car over heat in every drive thru lane - I will try anything. I'm thinking like Trevor - why not do both.
When I pull my lid off w/ftra and look at the filter you see a small strip of the part of the filter you actually use - everybody flips their filter around and uses the other half before they clean it. It is not much surface area. Look at the size of that filter on the FIPK!!!
I don't want to use some 2" duct - NO, pull out the bumper support and get rid of the wiper fluid resevoir and run some 5" ducting straight to the FIPK filter. It won't be "ram-air" but will definitely help.
Do it Trevor and then back it up at the track - and definitely cut out as much of that "pretty" plate that K&N gives you to allow as much air as possible.

OK, maybe someone w/ the FIPK can clarify on this since they have a better judge of this. Some people keep saying that the FRA won't work because it will dump air behind the K&N. I keep looking at the pics that I8COBRA posted on page 1 of this thread, and it looks like the FRA mod would allow cold air to be dumped straight into the K&N. Just look at the side pic of the unit. The only thing behind the filter is the radiator. I'm ordering the setup from Pace today, and I'm going to track-test my lid, K&N, and FRA against the FIPK and FRA. IF I have time, I'll test the FIPK w/ no FRA vs. with the FRA mod.
Eric - It's good to hear from you! What are you up to these days, and are you still driving the 'vert?

I also think these should be dyno-tested with the hood shut. I know that the hoods come down and probably rest on top of that filter, possibly blocking alot of filter area. I wonder how effective this setup would be with the hood shut vs a lid setup.

Back to the dyno dude!

Well it would be accurate to dyno with the hood shut since its that way when you drive BUT when you drive there is also air being pushed into the filer area.. the only way a closed hood test would be valid would be if you had a big a$& fan blowing

If you REALLY feel you need to do the FRA on this then cut the hole in the right place.. it wont matter if its a little behind the filter so long as it move outside air into the general area of the filter..

Tony, the filter actually has a few inches between the top of the filter and the hood.. plenty of room for air to circulate

I have been eagerly following this post and hoping to see some actual 1/4 mile times. Times are the only way to settle the debate. There is n.w.i.h. that you can properly evaluate an intake mod on a chassis dyno unless your chassis dyno is in a wind tunnel. So please quit all the arguing and get to the track.

the GP ends on the eighth so as soon as mine comes in ill go to the track and get some times i have times with the ftra whisper lid and holley filter one thing that no one has mentioned that were concerns with lid and ftra or at least questions i saw being asked ( that dont seem to be with the fipk)

1 will i get water in my motor
2 which lid seals the best
3 will my car run hot with the ftra
4 i get alot of trash in my air box with the ftra
5 i have to clean my filter all the time

my main reason for switching is reliability i wasnt happy with the fit of the lid i didnt like the idea of my wife being in the car and hitting a puddle i really didnt like seeing sand in my air box i plan on having this car awhile to me its a better system who cares if im .1 slower at the track
