Hey GeorgeC, BADZ is cutting the bottom in order to get better access to port match it, Craig at GTP is in the process of doing this for Jeff. You might want to call Craig if you plan on going with a holly intake with your new setup. He would be able to give you more information on what exactly they are doing, and might be able to help you out if you take this route.

Ahhhh, now I see. I had never seen a bottom view of the Holley LS1 intake before. Nice...

I'm going to be broke for awhile since I have to pay for a new motor, so I doubt I'll be shopping for one of these intakes anytime soon. Looks promising, though. I'm eager to see some results from folks swapping the LS6 intake out for a ported aluminum one.

The one big problem with this intake is going to be heat soak. For a street driven car you'll probably see less power than you would with an LS6 intake, although at the track when properly cooled, you should see more. I was talking with Nick Agostino at Performance World last weekend and he was saying that for most combos out there the LS6 intake is preferable. It's only going to really benefit the extreme horsepower cars only. Remember what happens to an LT1 with it's aluminum intake when you run back to back? You lose two tenths from heat soak. The same will happen here. So that little bit of power you might gain from the Holley when cooled down compared to the LS6 intake, will be lost as soon as you make the first pass. Not to mention the added weight.

but for a fee you could have the intake coated inside and out. MM & FF last month had a 5.0 intake coated on the outside only (no access to the runners inside for coating) and found that with the coating the 5.0 intake was actually being cooled by the incoming airflow at the track. Will you be able to open up the mouth where the TB is bolted is my question though.

An aluminum manifold cools down very quickly, the upper end of the engine takes a longer.

The real flaw in this theory can be seen by examining flow rates. it takes some time to heat up air, it cannot be done instantaneously. I can see the only way to prove this once and for all is to run insturmented tests of 1) air temp rise going through a manifold in real world conditions and 2) effect of icing down the upper end of the LT1 engine e.g. heads.

LS1's just don't exihibit 'heat soak' but it is there - people throw a bag of ice on an nylon (insultating) manifold. Redirect the cold somehow to the cyl heads and exhaust manifolds and you'll se an LS1 gan .2sec as well.

I heard the Holley intake is actually 30 lbs, can anyone confirm? That's substantially heavier than stock.

30 lbs. is the shipping weight which includes 2 boxes. Someone said 23 lbs, but I'll put mine on an accurate scale tonight.
