Default Project Dragzilla dyno update: 445rwhp / 501rwtq but still needs work

We dynod the ARE 422ci iron motor at Speed Inc. on Saturday.

Previous best unlocked was 419rwhp.

Previous best locked was 435rwhp.

Since the last dyno we changed over to a big intank fuel pump and shorty dual exhaust.

Car dynoed 445rwhp, 501rwtq on the second pull. Timing was at 28 degrees and the AF was 11.5:1.

Battery might have been low, the laptop lost communication during upload of different program.

445rwhp @ 6100 rpms
501rwtq @ 4400 rpms

This was with my old tuning. Car was way too lean from 3900 to 5000. AF was 18:1 from 3900 to 4300.

I made 440rwhp at 5100 rpms... and was lean. I think that the fuel curve in the old program is like very up and down, because if I plot out what it could do, I think the motor might put put 470-480rhwp unlocked at 13:1 AF.

With the new program we already make more vacuum and have excellent part throttle curves... we were just getting into the WOT stuff when the pcm got wacked.

We will finish up Wednesday.

We have been dynoing with a no lid and no filter. We have an FIPK waiting to get tried, along with a pull thru the Fram filter and whisper lid.

Thanks for reading up on this project... I hope to put up some worth #'s soon.

You're going to jump off that 11 sec list the first time to the track

Nice numbers.

It's coming along John. That motor should be capable of at least 475rwhp locked. Did you install the motor or did ARE install it? I'm surprised they didn't do a ton of dyno tuning when it first went in???

I dropped the car off there.

They did some pcm tuning before I picked it up, but that was in the 4 day period before NFRA @ BG. We always planned to dyno it again, and they would assist on pcm changes.

I'm feeling pretty good because a 98C5 A4 with just Borla dynod on the same dyno and did 300rwhp and 315rwtq...

I think i am going to have the shift points at 6600 or 6700. We have pulled the motor up to 7200.

Terry, 475rhwp locked does look attainable. I'd love 470rwhp unlocked and hopefully 490rwtq.

I have other pulls with 480-490rwtq...

I'm interested in seeing how that FIPK does for you. Great Numbers PSJ!

I'm glad to see that you're coming along. You're up on HP, but you're still missing a lot IMO. I'm curious to see the final results w/ all of the tuning in place. Keep plugging away!
I can show ya a dyno graph of 470+ RWTQ on my 383.

PSJ how much power would that be if your car was an M6? Congrats on the numbers.

The torque doesn't mean much unless the converter is locked. What torque did you make before with a locked converter?

John, once you get everything settles, you'll definitely attain your goals.

One thing for those who've never heard a true dual/TTS long tube set up spinning at 7200rpm...

John,

One thing I am noticing from your numbers is that the peak torque is very nice, but it then looks like it is falling off pretty quickly as your RPM gets higher. My question - was that value obtained with the convertor locked or unlocked? If that was with the convertor locked, then it looks like your engine is definitely running out of either fuel (as your A/F suggests) or possibly airflow as it spins slightly higher. I would think that that a peak torque that high would imply a peak HP pretty close to that. If it is fuel, that is definitely surprising with your 37-lb injectors.

On the other hand, if those are with the convertor unlocked, then the numbers make more sense.

PSJ, how much of the gain that you saw attributed to the true duals.? You talked about the fuel system, but I dont know if you knew for sure that was a problem area. I'd say that you should easily be averaging in the 465-475 range, and with the perfect programing, might be able to squeeze out 490-500. It's not like you have a tame combo there.
It appears that you should have left the car there at ARE, for a bit longer, & let him do his thing (mental note to self). I think in the long run you will get it figured out. If you do, grab some friends and make it over to M7 at the end of summer. You should be able to grab some high 10's there easy, it's the best track in Mich that I know of.

Car pulled 445rwhp with 11.5:1 AF, meaning it was rich. Ideal AF would be 12.5:1 thru 13:1. I made 440rwhp by 5100 rpms and it really climbed from there due to the AF getting more rich.

I don't have locked dyno #'s yet, but I will on Wednesday.

Keep us posted. I would hope for at least 470 HP locked-up and all dialed in hope to see a bit more than that.

Is this through an FLP 4L60E?

Threw the FLP tranny.

The torque spike on one run was like 570... I don't look at that stuff.

PSJ can you describe your PCV setup again? If you have something venting to atmosphere you can get wide swings in your AF ratio at certain rpm ranges.
Thanks,
Chris
